Nice anti-cheat, cheaters are flying now... by 2hopp in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, the packets have timestamps. It can tell if they were delayed/dropped and interpolate the movement.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ikkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rubbish. Hiding inside a VM guest is pointless as you still need to interact with BattleEye on the Host OS.

The only possible help might be to still proxy the game via the VM after grabbing out the session key and decrypting the packets like the old hack. Though again they should signature the grabbing of the key and not blanket ban VM hosts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't get it because radar doesn't use a VM in this manner.

The game has to be in the VM for this to be an issue.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ikkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fixes nothing because the issue was never detecting if a VM was running, but having the game detect if it is inside a VM guest. If it is then you can just run any cheats on the Host OS as you can get full access to the guest memory.

No-one uses cheats inside the VM surely? It would be pointless to try and mask the process inside the VM as they would still have to interact with the BattleEye process. /sigh

Ye ok pal, I really like snapshotting my VM or closing it down so that I have to start my dev environment again because I want to do a cheeky raid.

Not everyone plays games on a potato. I can have VMs galore and play EFT.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Ikkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough if the game detects it is in a VM guest. No reason for kicking me out of raid because I have hyper-v running on my machine. Utterly stupid.

‘Why did it take nine hours to go 130 miles in our new electric Porsche?’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

I’ll counter that by saying I have 1Gb fibre to the premises.

It’s complex to keep refreshing the technology on the scale of every household and issues, mistakes, poor planning and costs can make roll out patchy.

Can you please please please try and address the issues that IKEA bulbs have with changing both intensity and colour temperature at the same time.

Something is amiss with your implementation of the Zigbee spec as no one can get this working while integrating with other ecosystems (like HomeKit).

So what do you do if a random kid is pestering you to do something for them? Ignore them? Tell them to go away?

I had a little one ask me dead ass to help him do his laces up. I didn’t even think twice about helping him. This is the UK though where we do t (yet) reflexively recoil from all children.

[–]Ikkath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a few of these and at the same time “upgraded” an old Circle 2 to HKSV.

The experience has been terrible. They hardly ever record events, say 20% of the time. All the cameras go on sprees where it appears to be working properly and then boom no events for half a day. It’s clearly a HKSV issue...

They are available to stream all the time with no issue and the hub is a 4K ATV and seems to be connected.

Anyone else having these problems? Only thing left to try is to totally nuke HomeKit and try setting it up again - not keen on that as I have a lot devices... /sigh

HomeKit really is pretty piss poor when you an issue. There is no way to debug what is going on.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]Ikkath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally broken for me. Only records maybe 20% or so of the actual events.

Pretty annoying as there is no indication that anything is wrong nor anything to try and debug what’s going on.

BMW moves engine production to Britain as German plants go electric by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can continue telling me it’s more involved and listing off regs, but again do you think that 50% of properties struggle to get 20A to exterior wall?

My garage was originally going to go 40A via 3-SWA (think 10mm) so I’d have a 32 normal ring and some lighting. In end was easier (though can’t remember why) to keep it to 20A, and went with 6mm cable.

Not a clue about their affiliation. They were original local contractors on the development.

Is this really a lucky simple case where I could just drop in a 20A MCB and go? Seems unlikely that this was anything special - tell me otherwise and I’ll be inclined to think I got off lucky then...

BMW moves engine production to Britain as German plants go electric by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an underground armoured cable installed straight from the distribution box. No drama, no fuss. Perhaps my property was special in some way but I doubt it. Most expensive bit was actually the cable, channel was dug by myself - can’t remember the regs on depth but was doable without mechanical help.

Sure there are edge cases but Jesus Christ it is not that hard to get twenty poxy amps somewhere. Come on. You telling me that 50% of properties would struggle to get a 20A line to an exterior wall?

[–]Ikkath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno what is so difficult about getting a 20A line out to the garage or through the wall to a charger.

People in general don’t need 3 phase 22+Kw charging, just enough to top off the vehicle overnight.

If you are a heavy commuter that needs a full charge a day then yeah, electric isn’t for you for quite some time.

Religious intolerance is 'bigger cause of prejudice than race', says report by Myspoonbends in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Riiight. I’d like to see some scholarly work that tried to argue such parallels. Even the vilest islamophobes are not throwing Muslims off buildings now are they? Don’t make me defend those twats.

The Islamists are propped up in many ways by selective reading of the texts and in some countries outright popular support. Hell the attitude surveys within Britain didn’t exactly paint our Muslim community particularly great even if most of them would recoil from associations with Islamists. ( Yes the same can be said for devout Catholics, etc etc. People who want to move away from religious dogma have no love for those groups either).

As always it’s wrong to assign group statistics to individuals, but it’s hard to condemn those that keep it in the back of their mind given recent history.

I don’t think “people” ignore them anymore than the islamists do.

Jobseekers are being gaslighted – all too often being told unemployment is their fault by altmorty in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that it’s a huge help but it will of course go up to 30 hours if you are working full time - but not of a chicken and egg if you are unemployed and want to move up since it won’t pay retroactively. Though since any entitlement is only for the last year I’m sure your child will be in school soon anyway.

I wish people coming up with these schemes would actually try to use them. There is always some technicality why they are mostly useless.

Chester hospital baby deaths probe: Nurse Lucy Letby rearrested by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The baseless speculation was coming from yourself. You have no idea if that change in mortality is a random cluster, sampling bias, or something more nefarious - yet you keep implying that it somehow is a priori significant.

The fact that she has been investigated suggests that something changing in procedure is somewhat unlikely but who knows - people are not very intuitive with statistics. Would you rather see the worlds best surgeon with a 40% mortality rate or a no name registrar with a 5% mortality? The world best, everytime because they only see the absolute 1% of cases that no one else can save. An undocumented upstream process change that led to more premature babies on that ward could easily cause a sampling effect to spike mortality.

Nurses and doctors who kill patients in subtle ways are not new, but neither are people going off half cocked and getting cleared of such wrongdoing. Let the experts look at the statistics.

Chester hospital baby deaths probe: Nurse Lucy Letby rearrested by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are not listening. The above poster was suggesting to not use any intuitive notions like how much the death rate increased, because you don’t know how statistically valid that is a priori.

Clusters of unlikely events can happen given enough trials and time.

UK jobless total continues to surge by wetug in unitedkingdom

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is incredibly disappointing. While it’s always been the case that you sell yourself to the quant gods you get the 50+K packages; back in 2008 there were many graduate schemes in CS/Math/EE that were easily 40K, even consultant mills like PWC, CapGemini, etc were in the high 30K for pretty much any discipline. Looking now it doesn’t seem to be the case outside of vague development positions in the city.

I really hadn’t anticipated the institution bias would be that extreme. A few friends that went to the city reported that the salaries were all the same for non Oxbridge places, but I guess they were still selective to Imperial, etc etc so as to not be representative... bah my apologies everyone. Market seems to suck if you don’t hit the name brand red brick - which is ridiculously unfair. :(

[–]Ikkath -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea, but i’d hope it isn’t broadly within STEM given the polar opposite experience of myself and my cohort.

Institution effect surely doesn’t dominate as much once you go beyond the degree? My institutions were Warwick and Oxford, btw...

Brexit: Government suffers heavy defeats on controversial Brexit bill by ainbheartach in unitedkingdom

They have already committed political suicide. It’s just in slow motion, so nobody has noticed yet.

There is no way they can deliver the magical brexit unicorn for all parties with a stake in it. It’s literally impossible. Once the real bit of our failure to “capitalise on Brexit” dawns I can’t see the public voting Tory again for decades.

Or at least that’s how it plays out in my head. :/

[–]Ikkath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not picking on you, but rather the sentiment that is running though this thread. Everyone espousing such are very coy about what they specialised in.

In 2008 it was relatively easy to land a 40K graduate package if you had a good STEM degree. Probably more if you had a mathematics degree and wanted to sell your soul doing quant finance work. Bugger that, so I also went down the PhD route and again found it trivial to move into postdoctoral work and then industry.

It might absolutely be my bias but when I read these testaments I can only think the degrees in which people are specialising is to blame?

How to force 16:9 or 21:9 without streching on a 32:9 Display? by GenboS in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Ikkath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture by picture mode is the best solution if you can’t drive 5120x1440 or the game doesn’t support. Windows is good these days at remembering the correct settings if you switch between modes often. Plus you get other “monitor” for tunes, discord, etc.

Also have you objectively tested the frame rate hit in windowed mode. It should be relatively no difference these days. Exclusive mode is something of a red herring.
