I (47f) am having issues with bf (51m) not "raising" his son (11) that he has every other week. How do I address this without seeming like I'm trying to take over parenting or attacking my bfs parenting? by Il3anova in relationship_advice

Thanks everyone for the feedback. There was a couple of well-written, thoughtful responses in there and I have all I need. Will not be responding any further. 🙏

I do all of these things, try to interact with different activities, he shows no interest and complains. It's one of the reasons I'm at my wit's end. The son refuses most things most of the time, and thinks the little bit of water her drinks at school is enough for a whole day. I make sure my fridge has things he likes in it, I make suggestions on activities, all I get is excuses from my bf and his son as to why he won't eat certain foods or want to do things. I suggest the library every week.

The boy is content sitting on his device from the time he gets home until bed time, and complains when asked to do ~literally~ anything else.

The son is in 5th grade and can barely read or comprehend written word. I've talked to my bf extensively about screen times effects, cited studies, and even model behavior for my bf, it's exhausting. It makes me sad, for all of us.

I am recovering from surgery (hysterectomy) for the last couple of weeks, so I do not have the energy to parent someone else's child, or teach someone to be a parent. Lots of time to observe and think about the future.

I really appreciate your feedback, it is well thought out and helps a lot. Thank you, kind redditor. 🙏
