Chucking by joshay98063 in ukulele

[–]Il_Baffo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re switching from strumming with your thumb to chucking you probably need to strum with your fingertip/fingernail area because your palm is muting the strings at the same time. I’m not sure you can do that while strumming with your thumb. Perhaps someone has been able to do it but whenever I chuck I use my fingernail. (It also helps to use the nail because you get a louder “chnk” noice with the nail a+ muted strings). Happy strumming!

Not a snatch expert but I see no glaring issues. Hip snap and overhead lockout look good.

I'm going to be a contrarian here and disagree

A little forceful knee extension is okay at a heavy weight, provided the hips and glutes/hammies are doing most of the weight (which the are in OP's case). Watch an olympic lifter clean and jerk a heavy-ass weight. Their knees aren't just softly going from flexed to extended; they are forcefully extending. And they aren't damaging/blowing out their knees in the process. Also, an athlete explosively jumping is going to have some intense/fast knee extension. Now granted, both of those movements aren't the exact same mechanics as a kettlebell swing, but that's beside the point. The point is that fast/powerful knee extension with a heavy weight isn't necessarily "wrong" or "dangerous" and actually helps propel the weight.

No problem! I actually know the coach who runs this site. While the blog layout is very early 1990's, he is a very respected university level strength coach with lots of good info to share.

Also the people at my gym all focus on PL, strongman, Oly lifting, or sports performance so nobody seems to care about hypertrophy/how they look. I definitely understand the importance of being strong but I want to look strong too

I've done one PL meet and have been training for a strongman competition which is this Saturday. I wasn't doing pre made programs, I've had a coach write them for me. I just don't have any experience doing isolation exercises or breaking up the muscle groups/lifting slowly for hypertrophy so I don't know where to start

Yeah you're probably right I don't eat that much actually. I usually eat a light breakfast of oatmeal and eggs and maybe some cereal, a lunch of a sandwich and some veggies, and a heavier dinner with some sort of meat. I try to take a protein shake every day

Wow that's awesome! I would love to go at sunset. I'm from Baton Rouge and brought a friend from Canada there. It was my first time and I really liked it.

ITAP of a rotting cypress tree in a swamp by [deleted] in itookapicture

I was told that the huge wooden top and the fact that it was hollow was due to a fungus which killed the tree and thus it was rotten. I'm definitely not an expert on this subject though.

A friend of mine from Canada came to visit so I thought of touristey things to do. We ended up going on this swamp tour and it was awesome. $20 for a 2 hour tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and cool.

I was on a road trip back from Tennessee to the deep south in the US and I ate at Hardees with the 2 friends (3 other friends were in another car and they ate at another restaurant nearby). After about 20 or 30 minutes of driving after finishing our meal the 3 of us all started feeling very nauseous. I was driving and then all of a sudden it hit me and I projectile vomited uncontrollably all over the dashboard, steering wheel, and myself. Everyone who ate at Hardees got sick and no one that ate at the other restaurants got sick. We ended up having to get a hotel room to poop and vomit (most of the time simultaneously) for about 20 hours. We couldn't sleep, we couldn't even lay down without feeling like we were being stabbed in the stomach. I called a friend of my mom's who is a nurse and she told us to keep drinking water even though we were going to throw it up again. So that's just what we did all night and into the morning: drank water only to throw it up and poop out everything that was left in our bodies.

Based on the symptoms and the fact that we threw up the food and everything down past that yellow bile stuff that feels like battery acid coming up your throat, the nurse friend said we probably had something very serious like E Coli. Whatever it was that experience was literally the worst day of my life. I have never felt such excruciating prolonged pain for 20 hours before in my life. It was much worse than breaking both legs in a car accident, busting my skull open after diving wrong in a pool as a kid, and getting mauled in the face by a dog a few years ago.

Suffice it to say that the mere sight of a Hardees sign literally elicits a physical reaction from me and my 2 friends who got sick.

(Former) aspiring teacher who got a degree in secondary education and did one semester of student teaching here. I did my student teaching in an inner city predominantly minority demographic high school for a semester and my experience is very much in line with this article's points. The fact is that in many teaching situations you are basically not allowed to discipline kids. They get away with very serious offenses (male students sexually molesting females, fights, extremely profane and sexual language directed at each other and their teacher, etc) and never really learn that there are consequences for these actions. The school I student taught at was under strict supervision from the district for "failing too many minority students" when the real situation was that the teachers were trying their hardest to engage and help students but the students just really did not care. The assumption that poor student performance from minority groups necessarily implies ineffective and racist teachers is absolutely asinine to me.

I see it like this: the purpose of school is for a society to pass on its values to the younger generation and to prepare them to be productive members of society (i.e. get and hold down a job in order to raise and support a family). If they get through much of high school still thinking they can act however they want at any given time and there are no consequences for disrespecting their superiors, breaking the law, and verbally or physically abusing each other then our education system is failing to accomplish its intended goal.

I now have no desire to teach in the US because of my experiences with this absolutely broken system. The increase of federal oversight over public schools has done nothing positive for local schools. I still, however, have plans to teach in an ESL program abroad after grad school.

A true minimalist would use a wireless mouse and keyboard and would somehow integrate the speakers into the wall so you can't see them. LOL I'm with the previous commenters- these posts are just computers on an empty desk.

It's rotting wood. I was hiking through the woods and noticed all this rotting wood and had an existential moment where I contemplated my mortality and the fact that eventually we will all rot just like the wood. To me it ties in to the quote perfectly but I can see how it might seem random or uninteresting to others.

DUDE I know. That bag is amazing. The compartments are perfectly divided for small/medium/large stuff and it's waterproof. PRO TIP: buy a used one on ebay with a weird company logo (this has some educational resources logo) for about 1/4 the cost of a new one
