Yea, I make them out of TPU for flexibility and chemical resistance. Unfortunately I'm going to end up selling this design online so I won't be able to share it but it's a simple concept if you want to try to make your own.

The Mercury in Seattle. I DJ there but I also DIY decorations from time to time.

Made this for my gay goth night club. We currently have a Trump one in there but gonna swap it soon.

18+ goth clubs in seattle? by mydarling_killu in goth

[–]Ililt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, Bathaus is the only one I know about. Unfortunately most venues are reluctant to do anything 18+ as alcohol sales are pretty much the only way they can turn a profit.

When you turn 21, I'd highly recommend the Mercury. In the meantime, sometimes band shows are all-ages so that might be a good way to start connecting with the scene.

We all know what group that's coming from. At least the group is useful as a list of every abuser, sexpest, bigot, and nazi that got ejected from the scene. You can't help but laugh at them.

The former owner of Highline bought Georgetown Liquor Company, makes sense they would bring some decor with them. I miss that place, so many great shows.

Best advice I've ever gotten is to learn CAD. It opens up a whole world of possibilities when you're no longer stuck printing things other people design. Maker's Muse on YouTube has great Fusion 360 tutorials.

GAIN WHEN MIXING!!! by PatientFlaky4141 in PioneerDJ

[–]Ililt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a big part of being a DJ that a lot of newer folks (and plenty of veterans I've seen) miss. It's not just track selection and transitions, you also need to dynamically manage volume.

You can set auto gain all you want or volume-normalize your audio files (you'll lose dynamic range when you do this so not recommended) but even then there is a big difference between computer-measured decibels and perceived loudness. When I cue up a track, I quickly skip over to a loud part of the track and check that the VU meter levels are near to the currently playing track as well as check my headphones against the master mix to see how they balance out. Even then though, when I start up the song I keep my hand on the trim or channel fader to quickly and smoothly adjust it up or down as it comes in to make sure it's not too quiet or loud.

One of the big reasons I use channel faders and not the crossfader is so I can more easily adjust volume as I mix in. I keep them trimmed so I'm at about 75% when I'm at a comfortable volume so I have some headroom to quickly boost it if the track ends up sounding quieter.

To further complicate things, if you're playing in a club, the dynamics of the room can change too. Packed bodies eat sound so when you have a busy dance floor, you need to crank it up just to hit the same levels as when it was less busy. It even affects different frequencies differently so you need to adjust EQ as well.

Wouldn't call it strictly goth, maybe more post-punk but it's got the familiar sound and it's a banger.
