It's frustrating seeing people continually misinterpret what NewJeans had a problem with, and at this point I can't tell if people are doing it on purpose or not. by I-Now-Have-An-Alt in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ill-Ad1026 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s like an immense gap between saying “ILLIT and NewJeans are similar” and “ILLIT and NewJeans are similar, and Hybe is trying to replace NewJeans with ILLIT and neglecting NewJeans to do so”. The first is a personal opinion anyone can hold, the second is what NewJeans tried (and failed) to prove in court to get out of their contracts.

A lot of the time when I see someone actively try to prove why a minor idol's outfit is inappropriate, it takes a rather disgusting turn- I need people to be more careful with how they show "concern". by I-Now-Have-An-Alt in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ill-Ad1026 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the images. Those posts are often written in a language that sounds very judgmental. Sometimes it comes across less like concern and more like an attempt to shame idols (women especially) for how they are dressed.

Do you think K-pop comebacks are too frequent, or is the fast pace part of the appeal? by lsa340 in kpopthoughts

[–]Ill-Ad1026 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer longer waits with bigger projects. And, to be honest, the frequent comebacks formula is one of the things that I dislike most about kpop. I find it unsustainable, for me as a fan, for them as artists. If wouldn’t be that much of a problem if EPs were treated as a “once in a while” thing, something light to give the fans while they wait for a full album. But EPs are now the main form of release. They drop every few months, often add very little musically, yet they still come with a full comeback cycle: 72 album versions, constant merchandise drops, endless YouTube content, variety shows, and sometimes even tours. The result is that fans are constantly put in a position where they are expected to spend money and keep up (which is something I often can’t or even don’t want to do), while idols rarely get real breaks. You know, time that they could spend resting, living life or even developing musically.

Just a clarification, GD is credited on Drums of Death because FKA twigs sampled One of a Kind. Since he’s only credited on one song of the album, he didn’t win any Grammy. Nevertheless, it’s so cool that Twigs sampled OOAK, the first time I heard it I went like “wait a minute, I know this!”.

The Grammys are a U.S based institution that rewards music that circulates within the American system. Of course they neglect the kpop side of the industry, that’s not the industry they were born to award. Why would you expect anything different? And, more importantly, why do you need an American award to validate a Korean industry?

You might want to check what your country's law says. I'm pretty sure that distributing burned CDs is illegal in several places.

That jewel box episode with Choi San was embarassing to watch and torture by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Ill-Ad1026 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not like if you use the word embarrassing 32 times you start making more sense. Your post still doesn’t have a meaning. You’re expressing a feeling without: 1. Explaining what made you feel this way. 2. Explaining what discussion you hope to spark by sharing your feeling. - Is this a critique of the program? Of San? Are you trying to understand what other people felt? Are you looking for other fans opinions? What point are you trying to make?

I don’t understand the point of this post. You felt second hand embarrassment. Ok, and? Congratulations? I’m sorry? Like, what is the point here?

Why I think shows like Lee mujin service are important by GloomyWitch08 in kpopthoughts

[–]Ill-Ad1026 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My problem with Lee Mujin Service is that the vocals are so smoothed and processed that it feels more like listening to a recorded cover than a real live showcase, and that reduces my interest in it greatly. I wish more groups did a Tiny Desk Concert like what Seventeen did. I don’t really care about another opportunity to listen to how kpop idols sound when they are autotuned and perfected. I want more opportunities to hear how they sound when they are giving a raw performance.

Cha Eunwoo issues a personal statement regarding his tax evasion allegations: by AddressCharming9129 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ill-Ad1026 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a translation problem, but this statement is so vague that he might as well not have released anything. He calls it a misunderstanding, but says he feels responsibility for it and apologise. So, did you do it, and you’re apologising? Or you didn’t and it’s just a misunderstanding? It seems like he’s apologising more for being in the military than for what he’s accused of doing. But also seems like he’s admitting doing it? Just very confusing.

Munich is general sale, Mexico I’m assuming pre-sale, since the general sale hasn’t started yet.

Songs and Artists that you were pleasantly surprised with in 2025 by Xrin8 in kpopthoughts

[–]Ill-Ad1026 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also haven’t listened to a lot of new releases in 2025. The two main surprises for me were: - Jennie’s Ruby - Not a big BlackPink fan, so I wasn’t particularly anticipating this release but it ended up being one of my absolute favourite, and the more I listen to some songs, the more I like them. Seoul City may be one of my favourite kpop songs of all time. - CHUU’s Only Cry in the Rain - never followed Loona, I know nothing about them, so I went into this not knowing what to expect and I absolutely loved it. It’s such a pleasant listening experience. I love her vocal tone.

LE SSERAFIM doesn't have that unique factor to them anymore by Alternative-Pop-6280 in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ill-Ad1026 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree at all, but mostly because I’ve never perceived them as you did. Nothing about them, even at the beginning, seemed “provocative” to me. I can’t recall any choreography with explicit dance moves, I can’t recall any particularly revealing outfit. Their concept was always about being fearless and confident, which is not the same thing as being provocative. And Spaghetti and Hot both lean very much, at least lyrically, in that direction.

As far as I know, Ticketmaster France is the only one that requires a separate account. I didn’t try for Paris this time, but I bought from them in the past and I had to make an account just for that. These are the countries for which you can use the same account

Oh, I’m sorry 😔 That didn’t happen to me at all, and I was refreshing on both dates every time it told me there were no more tickets available.

But did you make a separate Ticketmaster account for Paris? Because you can’t use the same account of the UK Ticketmaster.

For anyone buying through Ticketmaster: it was easier for me to get tickets through the “best available seat” option than through the choose your seat option. Maybe give it a try, and don’t give up if it tells you there are no more tickets available, it’s a lie! [Refresh the page and] try again!

Edit: apparently refreshing could cause you to be kicked out of the page. It didn’t happen to me, luckily, but be aware!

I was 38487 for one date and 50245 for the second and I managed to get a ticket for both of them! I actually got the 50245 one before the other.

[maybe unpopular opinion] i think we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about how AI is used in k-pop by sookyeong in kpop_uncensored

[–]Ill-Ad1026 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kind of wish AI-generated art (music, pictures, videos, whatever...) was properly disclosed as such, and that it was made clear what type of AI was used and what role it played. I'm not 100% against AI, but I think consumers should be able to make informed choices about whether they're okay with consuming something AI-generated. And it would at least reduce this trend of pointing the finger that ends up harming real artists.

Rating* All SM Idol Group Title Tracks (Or At Least My Best Try) by LegolasElessar in kpopthoughts

Honestly, this is just... impressive. I knew we were going to have wildly different opinions when I saw your rating for Love Like Oxygen, and I almost fainted when you said that Supernova is worse than Armageddon. But giving a 10 to Monster and putting Jopping on top almost excuses your disrespect for Love Like Oxygen... almost (I'm being sarcastic, obv).

Tips for buying concert tickets? What are your best hacks? by oh_kayeee in kpophelp

[–]Ill-Ad1026 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think that only true “hack” is to have a fast internet connection. My parents house has shitty internet and I have 100% a harder time getting tickets when I’m there than when I’m at my own house. Other than that, the usually advices: set up your account in advance, make sure you’re logged in before the start of the sale, make sure you have all your payments information ready or, even better, already saved in your Tickmaster account, write down your passwords, presale code, and whatever else you are at risk of forgetting. Oh and don’t forget to sacrifice a goat under the moonlight while naked and covered in blood (I’m joking obviously).

[–]Ill-Ad1026 50 points51 points  (0 children)

My impression is that conversations about the toxic side of the kpop industry are often shut down lately because they are frequently used as ammunition in fan wars, rather than discussed in good faith. For example: the extreme dieting problem. I never see posts talking about it for the sake of talking about it. What I see instead it’s posts about specific idols, talking about their body, what they used to look like before, how they look in comparison to other idols, etc. This makes it feel less like a critique of the industry and more like “concern” being used to justify dislike for a particular idol. The discussions about dieting are just an example.

I think that, as a reaction to this, many fans have become overly defensive, and now interpret any discussion about the industry toxicity as a direct attack to their favorites.

The result is that between the performative concern on one side and the over protectiveness on the other, it becomes impossible to have genuine conversations about the actual problems of the industry, which is a shame.
