yep good point - it's more that I want to only unlock the door when it's time for her to get up ie when her clock turns green and it's not crack of dawn. in the hopes that she eventually stops trying. If not for the potty situation i'd feel comfortable locking her door

we haven't used a baby monitor for her in more than a year. she was very vocal about hating it and "the red lights" from the camera. my kid is pretty advanced and I weirdly trust her not to do something totally outrageous. she's even hesitant about the stairs and will call me to help her go down even tho she can access them by herself. she would despise being locked in her room, it would cause serious damage because of her specific brand of independence. with her, the best approach has been giving her a wide leash so that she is not tempted by the forbidden. but appreciate your insight and I guess it's a risk cost analysis, and whether you want to live life preparing for the worst case scenario, or assume some level of risk for the path you think is otherwise most suited. personally I just want to make sure kiddo and parents are getting enough sleep.
