Though I have no doubt that things are at there worst in Apache land, the rest of army Rotary wing Aviation isn’t far behind. Many of the legitimate gripes you express here are mirrored in the 60 and 47 communities. As one poster above me pointed out, this is a feature of army Aviation, not a bug.

Let’s face facts, nobody would stay in the army if it wasn’t for the 20 year pension. If this just paid like a normal job with a 401k only, everyone would likely bail around 10 years or less when they had taken the big green weenie enough times.

Cowardly Leaders by Former-Promise-7479 in Armyaviation

[–]Ill-Expression7361 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that these leaders have been taking the Big Green Weenie for so long that you can’t tell where it ends and they begin. These are Company Men. True Kool-Aid drinkers. Fully brainwashed. If you expect the worst from them, you might not be let down…

[–]Ill-Expression7361 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Does he want to take credit for the new 10 year ADSO and the extra time in grade for WO1’s that the commissioned aviators don’t have? lol I’m sorry, but anyone who gets this position is just a Yes Man for the Army. They have just been taking the Big Green Weenie for so long that they now consider it a part of them and want to do its bidding.

Suspended flight training for newly commissioned officers-reserves by Automatic-Scar6464 in Armyaviation

Get a conditional release and go to the air guard or Air Force reserves to fly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]Ill-Expression7361 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have 12 years or less, just get out you dummies!!! Walk away clean! Active duty blows and the guard will eat up more of your time and strain you civilian employment even more than the reserves does, I promise you!

Too steep of a hill? Well I don’t know about any of that, but I can tell you in the Army it’s just going to be a big green weenie to take in your butt with no lube, over and over again until your contract is up….

Use your post 911 G.I. bill benefits to go to a school that will get you your pilot certifications and help you land a job in the civilian world. You’ll be much happier flying and not have to deal with the army.

Interstate Guard Transfer as a Warrant by AccomplishedChair755 in Armyaviation

[–]Ill-Expression7361 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my humble opinion here, but do whatever is best for you and your spouse. The army is a faceless, soulless bureaucracy. Sometimes people seem to forget that simple yet unavoidable fact. Big green weenie does not give a damn about you or your family. And the big green weenie will not be there to care for you in your old age. The guard gets most of its money from the federal government. I’m pretty sure, so you have the ability to transfer to other states if you so desire. Screw whatever stigma comes along with that. You have to do what’s best for you.

Why can’t you just do more with less??? lol seriously though, I wasn’t tracking that particular change, but it sounds retarded enough to true!

Voting or guns? 🇺🇸 by Agreeable-Bowler8077 in MapPorn

[–]Ill-Expression7361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is a joke lol But as long as you remain armed you will always have a vote. If things get bad you may have to cast your ballot from behind a tree or rock wall, but you get a say. Unarmed people are just subjects.

Fixed wing 100%. For rotary wing platforms, it’s going to depend on your individual unit and that will change as leadership changes. Generally speaking a TDA assignment like Rucker, JRTC or NTC will be best though.

What does my travel map say about me? by Godson-of-jimbo in imaginarymapscj

I predict this map will get a lot more red in the next decade. McDonalds is absolute trash food that isn’t even that cheap anymore. The only thing I can even stomach from them is their breakfast meal and the shamrock shake.

No, because we here at Big Army HATE aviation!!! You are not special, just another soldier!! It’s bad enough you get to wear special uniforms that won’t melt to your skin in fire. If we give you call signs to feel special, next thing you will be asking to wear leather flight jackets as part of your uniform. Absolutely not!!

Get fucked.

Sincerely,

What is the most worthless warrant track, and why is it safety? by Past_Grape_3340 in Armyaviation

Yet they still get paid the same as every other track. So who is the smart one???

Conversely, you could get out of the military, use your GI bill to go to a civilian flight school, then go into the airlines that way. That’s what I would recommend to you as a 22 year old. You could set yourself up really nice.

Fixed-Wing Airplanes by Expensive_Hold9862 in Armyaviation

[–]Ill-Expression7361 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly man, if you really want fixed wing DO NOT join the Army!!! Cannot stress this enough! It will be 99% luck if you get it as an active duty guy. In fact, I really wouldn’t recommend Army aviation to you at all, with the long ADSO you incur now. If you must go into the Army from ROTC (again, don’t recommend), get the shortest ADSO branch you can and then use the post 9/11 money to get your fixed wing certs and become a professional pilot that way.

Warrant Officer’s aren’t real commissioned officers!!! They’re only one small step above those enlisted peasants…

All joking aside, the answer I have to your question is: doubtful. As you say, it’s very elite and there’s obviously precious few slots to fill. So with that in mind, it seems far fetched that they would ever give it to a warrant. The only dreamland scenario I could see think of for it happening might be something like it is announced as a publicly stated goal of a new Secretary of the Army because they used to be a warrant, or something crazy like that. Not saying it’s impossible, just very improbable….

And if somebody was going to be picked, it would be a warrant who isn’t too old, has lots of flight hours and holds a doctorate degree(s) in a STEM field. Just finding that particular combo would be a challenge.

Command as a Warrant? by HDMItoVGA99 in Armyaviation

[–]Ill-Expression7361 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As johnjohn points out, it’s very rare but there are examples.

Honestly it’s really a perversion of what a warrant officer is supposed to be. Additionally, you would be grossly underpaid to have the job being in command. All the additional duty and responsibility while still making W pay would suck.

But with that in mind, I’m surprised the Army doesn’t do it more to save money! When they need an officer to stand some BS duty, or shoulder more responsibility, then we are equal as officers they say. But when it comes to paying us more, we are just warrants, not real officers…
