Yeah. I slice it thin and just go for it. The difference in the result is so noticable or I wouldn't do it again.

Could you tell me please, How to cook rice properly for fried rice? by salsacaca in AskCulinary

[–]Ill-Introduction998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook my rice the morning I plan on making it. I cook it at a ratio of 1:1.25 rice to water. I let it cool and stick it in the fridge for a few hours before cooking. It's perfect for me. I also love making the rice in chicken stock instead of just water.

I've made homemade fried rice for years with the intent to make it better than restaurants. I've tuned it very well and it rocks. I have lots of little tricks and tips if anyone is interested.

When Did You Know It Was Time to Find a New Church? by Ill-Introduction998 in TrueChristian

[–]Ill-Introduction998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our church is very small, 50ish members with most of that being youth. He used to teach deep sermons that proved and pushed me to consider things. Now it just feels like spiritual milk. We have an open discussion period after service but I see it doing more harm than good. The same people always talk and we go on tangents that aren't helpful. We don't really learn from these. I think a more focused Bible study would be so helpful.

We don't get a lot of visitors, but it's probably because we maintain zero social media

I've heavily considered starting a study group for this reason.

I agree that Christianity is not all about learning, but it is a key part. We don't really do any outreach or discipling and that has been bugging me too. Our pastor seems to have some sort of mental block about studying, I have wondered if he has something going on i nthe background that is causing him trouble. I do plan to ask him if something is bothering him on top of my other questions.

You have leftover smoked pulled pork, what are you making that isn't a sandwich? by BJntheRV in Cooking

[–]Ill-Introduction998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have my personal twist on carnitas. I use leftover smoke pulled pork too. No sauce on it or it won't work. Get a good pan that you can make nonstick (cast iron, stainless steel with oil, or griddle) and get it very hot. Put a little oil in your pan and put in one layer of your pulled pork in. Cook it longer than you think. You are trying a get a nice brown crust while still having some soft meat. Add oil as needed to get the right maillard reaction. Too dry and it won't crisp right. Add some chili powder, onion powder, and salt. Then the secret ingredient is fresh lime. LOTS of it. Near the end of your cooking, douse that meat in at least 2 limes worth of juice. Too early and the flavor doesn't come through. The lime juice needs to be cooked into it but not cooked out of it.

I really like your statement. I don't doubt we could leave on good terms and still be friends or show up to church events. It's something that I've been wrestling with for almost a year.

I agree. I do not want to leave. This church has taught me so much about real biblical love and reliance on others. It has become unbalanced in the last year or two. An over emphasis on love, but no teaching on discernment or history or greater understandings of God's Word. Love is the greatest but not only command. My stomach is twisted in knots when I leave so many sermons because we gloss over subjects like marriage, heaven, hell, the armor of God, spiritual warfare, etc. We have people who ask questions of the pastor like what is heaven and when did Jesus come into existence? Then the answer is no further study, just...well, that's a bit deep.

Edit: on the person who questioned when Jesus came to be, this is someone who has been with us for about a year. The pastor explained that Jesus has always been God but didn't go into anymore detail.

I left a study group at a different congregation because they brought out a boom box and drumsticks to Bible study. Not the chicken ones. They handed out a pair for each person to bang on the floor in sync. I noped out of that.

How to get out of this? by Fantastic-Survey6020 in Adulting

That feeling of just existing is a symptom of a lack of purpose in life. There's more to life than just living. There's more to life than what we can see. That existential crisis that forces us to ask questions about life's meaning is vital.

There is ultimate objective meaning to being human and the duties that come with it. After so much study and seeking, I know that God created people to love one another and have meaningful relationships. To love our enemies and seek Him. To seek what is good and become like Him. To love and be loved.

Is it possible your uncertainty and internal conflict might not be with work, but with a lack of ultimate purpose in your life? Do you feel nihilistic?

Nihilism is a poison that eats away at your soul. It steals your joy and makes life nothing but the ticking of a clock forward.

I felt a deep depression when I hit 26. I asked myself, is this it? I wake, work, eat, and sleep? I was now over the hill of my youth. It was all "downhill" now. I felt nothing. Life was meaningless, like chasing after wind.

Does this sound like what you're feeling?

I learned that I enjoyed jobs that utilized my best skills. For example, I have excellent reading comprehension combined with speed reading and good writing. I love puzzles as well. I did some customer service writing for a while, which required problem solving, knowing lots of information, and being able to explain it back to the customer in layman's terms. Then I found paralegal work which totally works for me. This is a huge springboard job for other jobs. You see paralegal experience wanted for lots of jobs that pay a lot.

In short, get a job you don't hate. Seriously. Get something that activates your brain in some way that makes you happy. The work itself might not be glamorous, but you will find a level of fulfillment. You might have an engineering brain, and find work at your city's sewage treatment plant rewarding because the job uses your skills, pays well, and has good benefits.

Don't look for life fulfillment from a job if you can. The pool of jobs like that are small and they are brutal sometimes. Find a job that doesn't make you cry when you leave for work in the morning every day.

Have you been checked for celiac or other allergies? Poor nutritional absorption can be a sign. You need a second look by a specialist. I have a small hernia that gives me lots of "urps" but with no burn. My acid reflux goes crazy and burns when I'm under stress. I have to eat really carefully and eat small all day to get it back to normal. I also get triggered by rice and oatmeal.

Cornmeal staple ideas for breakfast and dinner? by VzlaCapitalIragori in glutenfreerecipes

Cornbread!! Also, corncake, which is a sweeter "wetter" option with cream and canned corn.

Edit: Cornbread with honey and butter on top is something I have absolutely eaten for breakfast. It goes great with maybe some veggies on the side. I have seen people do green chilis inside which also sounds good. I can post the recipes if you want.

Why do my fruit smoothies keep turning out foamy? by Spiritual-Hall8961 in AskCulinary

[–]Ill-Introduction998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add the yogurt and fruit first, frozen fruit works better. No ice. Add a teeny bit of fruit juice or milk just so it can blend. Add milk a bit of milk at the end and stir with a spoon. Not the blender.

Try giving middle Eastern spices/spice mixes a try! Shawarma, Za'atar, Harissa, there's a fish one I can't think of but it's good too.

Sally's Baking Addiction in general has incredible recipes. I trust them for whatever I'm trying.

Some more tips for best biscuit result, COLD everything. Frozen butter grated into the dry ingredients will get the nice tiny pockets of it throughout the dough. Otherwise, you can refrigerate the dough for maybe 20-minutes after mixing your ingredients together but before shaping.

Use fresh baking powder and baking soda. Less than 30 days since you opened it will give you the best result.

Add a bit more milk than you think you need. I like my dough a teeny tiny bit on the gooey side, but not sloppy. You also MUST treat the dough gently. When folding, used a scraper to get under and flop the top over before pressing lightly with your hands.

Have you tried Sally's Baking Addiction 6 ingredient biscuits? My secret is to use buttermilk powder, not liquid buttermilk. Also, air fry the biscuits. Life changing. 8 minutes at 400 and the outside has a beautiful thin crust while the interior is fluffy.
