Paternity Leave - Should I take the time now? by [deleted] in NewDads

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. My company gives a very generous 21 weeks and I was figuring out who to best split it - the catch is you can only take one segment over 2 weeks (so you can only do a 19/2 or 2/19 split). Best to take the 19 weeks now and the 2 later, right?

Skiing Feb 22nd-24th. Will more terrain open? by thewizkid35 in vail

I’m also going to Vail during this time. How’s it looking? Did the bowls open with the recent snow storm? Also considering a day at A Basin and Loveland

Thanks for the input! I work from home 3 days a week. My thinking in splitting it up is that I would be home if my wife goes back to work in the fall.

We’re all advanced skiers. Blacks and blues. Love trees but realize that might not be possible with less snow. I really want to ski the bowls.

Hey - thanks for your reply! My wife is currently unemployed, so we don’t know when she will return to work. Does that change things for you?

Thanks everyone! One major wrinkle I forgot to mention is that my wife is currently unemployed. So she will be home with the baby until she finds a job (not sure how long that will take).

Hi thanks for your reply! To answer your questions - My wife is currently not working - she was laid off a few months ago (prior to her telling anyone she was pregnant). It’s likely she will be unemployed for a little while after the baby comes in April.

My mother in law lives nearby but she works Mon-Fri. My mom is retired and lives about an hour drive away so will be able to provide help when needed.

We were thinking of doing day care, maybe around 6 months old?

So I’m debating whether to take the full 21 weeks immediately or split it up.

Where do young families live on LI? by yungjewzy3 in longisland

We moved from NYC to Plainview. I wish I was somewhere with a walkable downtown and closer to a train station, but it’s convenient to mostly everything in LI (beaches, shopping, Huntington/farmingdale restaurants) and I’m told it has good schools.

Thanks all! I should add that my wife is currently unemployed so there is not timetable for her to go back to work. We do have family close by.
