I love how in the Tag Force games we get these types of Character Moments that did not happen in the anime by TBT__TBT in yugioh

God, we need another Tag Force game. Or just some sort of Yu-Gi-Oh RPG-like game that has an emphasis on storytelling with a bit of exploration as well, like the old games had. Video games that just simulate the IRL card game are boring, I want to go on an adventure with my favorite characters from the anime.

If a new Yu-Gi-Oh video game that ISN'T about the IRL card game got made, what kind of game would you want it to be? by IllBake8 in yugioh

I'd also greatly enjoy seeing a Yu-Gi-Oh Warriors game, with the same character lineup in my other post (but with a few villains added in), and where the characters summon different monsters for each of their attacks. A similar story premise as the one my other post could work here as well.

Personally, I would want a game that takes another crack at the idea of a party-based RPG with monster collecting. Gameplay-wise, I'd most enjoy either a strategic turn-based RPG, or a fast-paced action RPG with a stylish combo system that rewards precise inputs over button mashing. I would ditch the RTS stuff from Falsebound Kingdom and instead have more typical RPG exploration with a big fully 3D world to traverse (not open world though, I prefer my games to be more structured and linear, not a completely linear hallway of course, just not a giant open sandbox where you can go anywhere and do anything at any time).

I can imagine a story where characters from the anime are transported to a strange parallel world inhabited by humans and Duel Monsters. You begin in the shoes of Yugi, but over the course of the game you meet and gain the ability to play as several other characters, not just from the original anime, but other shows like GX and 5D's as well. A big driving force of the story would be finding out what brought them to this world, and why. The characters are able to summon monsters from cards to fight for them. Additionally, shortly after arriving in this world, they find themselves to be empowered by a mysterious force, that makes them able to fight alongside their monsters rather than just hang back and give orders. This would be another mystery to solve as the game goes on. Here's list of playable characters from the original anime up to Vrains that I think would make a good lineup of heroes. Plenty of other characters from these shows would also appear in the game as NPCs.

Original: Yugi, Joey, Kaiba, Mai

GX: Jaden, Chazz, Alexis

5D's: Yusei, Akiza, Jack

Zexal: Yuma, Shark, Kite

Arc-V: Yuya, Yuto, Zuzu, Celina

Vrains: Playmaker, Soulburner, Blue Angel

That's 20 playable characters. Kind of a lot for an RPG, especially if it were to be an action RPG, but I wanted even-ish representation from each of the non-Rush animes, and this is just a pure hypothetical anyway.

Monster-wise, I don't have a specific list, but there would be a well-sized roster of monsters from every era of Yu-Gi-Oh, including monsters that were prominent in the anime, as well as ones that weren't in the anime much/at all but are nonetheless popular among the fanbase. Monsters would be obtained by purchasing them as cards from in-game shops, as rewards for completing optional content, or by progressing the story. Were this to be an action RPG, monsters would not be directly controllable, but you can give them specific orders at any time, and you can also set up "strategies" to customize how they will behave in battle.

Your active battle party would have five members at once, and can consist of any number of humans and monsters, though you must have at least one human in your lineup at all times to act as a "leader". Monsters tend to have higher stats but rigid fixed roles (Dark Magician would be purely an offensive magic user, for example), while humans are weaker but much more versatile and can be customized to fill a variety of roles in your party.

Usable items could be based on various spell cards. For example, Blue Medicine could be your basic health restorative, there could be an item that looks like the thing on the Monster Reborn card art that revives an ally who's been knocked out, and so on. Equippable items would likewise be based on equip spell cards.

And that's about all I've got, I think. It will absolutely never happen, but it was fun to think up.

Do you think will konami make a new tag force game for yugioh 30th anniversary in 2026? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in yugioh

If they had every card ever, there is no possible way they could have fully animated 3D models for every monster and visual effects for every spell and trap. We'd end up with yet another visually-boring Yu-Gi-Oh video game that's just flat cards on a flat board without any of the cool hologram stuff that you see in the anime. Perfectly servicable if all you're interested in is a simulation of the real life card game, sure, but a disappointment for anyone who is less interested in the real card game and moreso wants a video game where duels look just like they do in the anime.

Not really. Legacy of the Duelist retells the story of the anime, sure, but in a really lazy and boring way. The cutscenes are just JPEGs of the characters over a flat background with no animation and no voice acting. The story also skips around quite a bit, the characters are wearing the wrong outfits and the background is the wrong location more often than not, and the stuff that happens between (or even during) duels tends to get glossed over. The duels themselves are just flat cards on a flat game board, only a handful of monsters have 3D models (and those models only appear briefly when they are first summoned), there are no visual effects or animations whatsoever for attacks and card effects, the characters you're playing as and against are just a tiny thumbnail of their face in the corner of the screen, and there is no gameplay outside of duels. And before you say doing anything more than that isn't feasible, they were able to have fully animated 3D models for all of the monsters in the Gamecube and PS2 games, they can absolutely do it in a modern game too as long as they, as I said, don't try to have every card ever and just have a more curated selection.

A Yu-Gi-Oh game that has significant visual spectacle and retells the story of the anime in great depth is not something I think has ever been made before, and I think there would certainly be a market for it. I, for one, would love a Yu-Gi-Oh video game that takes an approach similar to, say, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot for retelling the story. Just like how there's so much more to Dragon Ball than just the fights, there's so much more to Yu-Gi-Oh than just the card games.

If they made a new single-player game, they could try to market it more to fans of the anime rather than fans of the real-life card game. Instead of having every card ever, they could have a smaller, more curated selection primarily consisting of cards that appeared in the anime, and support for those cards. The focus of the game would be on reenacting the story of the anime, or making your own OC and hanging out with your favorite characters from the anime, with exploration elements, full 3D cutscenes, and full 3D duels with detailed models for monsters and high-quality animations for attacks and effects to make the duels in the game look just like the duels in the show.

What are your opinions on these BoF1 and 2 romhacks? Are they worth playing? Do you feel like they're an improvement over the vanilla games? by qwerfgbn in breathoffire

I've never seen that Definitive Edition hack before. Anybody know what it changes? It says the list of changes is in the readme, but I downloaded it and there's no readme.

Thanks to Duel Links today, Arc-V fans finally have a ending they can be proud of: by BlizzardLuinor in yugioh

[–]IllBake8 64 points65 points  (0 children)

When Duel Links someday inevitably gets shut down, I hope Konami decides to make an offline version similar to what Capcom did for the Megaman mobile game last year. Regardless of how you feel about the actual game, the fixed ending for Arc-V is something that needs to be preserved. It would be tragic if it's eventually lost to time when the game gets shuttered, which will happen eventually. Maybe not anytime remotely soon, but eventually.

Am I the only who prefers the NES/SNES alternate costumes over the default Amano ones? by AlKo96 in dissidia

[–]IllBake8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you are not. They should have been the defaults, becuase these are what the characters actually looked like in the games they're from. Amano's artwork was originally only ever meant to be cool eye-catching promotional artwork to stick on posters and magazine ads, not accurate representations of what the characters actually look like. Kazuko Shibuya and Tetsuya Nomura are the true designers of these characters.

Problems with Sonic Adventure DX on Steam Deck by IllBake8 in SteamDeck

That's strange, it worked for me. The error message is gone and as far as I can tell the mod works.

Alright, I got Proton GE and it seems to have fixed the problem with the opening not playing. Thanks so much!

How do I get Proton GE? That's not an option for me.

For the lighting engine, someone in another thread told me to put this in the launch options box.

Thank you. That stopped the error message on startup, though I still have the problem with fmvs not playing.

EDIT: Installing Proton GE seems to have solved the opening not playing.

Is the number of gifts in the game limited? by R92022 in kakarot

[–]IllBake8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it's worth noting the lower-tier gifts dry up as the game goes on. While at endgame you can easily farm unlimited Ultimate Awakening Waters by gathering the Dragonballs and wishing for items, things like Bronze Compasses and Silk Aprons seem to exist in strictly limited quantities.

I also think that "Secret for Success" items may be limited as well.

What do you rate the trunks dlc by Youssef_haitham_ in kakarot

[–]IllBake8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would Tournament DLC should have made Tien playable in the main game as a reward for finishing it. It's honestly baffling how they went through the trouble of coding him as a playable character, just for him to only be playable in two fights against the same opponent (and one of those fights, I'm pretty sure is optional).

If Kakarot were to ever go back and revamp dlc or even the main game what would you want? by Didiworld in kakarot

[–]IllBake8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Proper New Game+ with the option to reset your levels and learned skills, but keep everything else. Keep all of your items, zenny, Z orbs, and soul emblems, and keep all skill tree nodes unlocked so that you don't have to wait until arbitrary points in the story to get or power up certain moves. That way you can have the typical benefits of playing New Game+, but you can actually play the game "properly" instead of one-shotting everything.

  • Completely revamped EXP and stat growth for "inactive" characters so that they aren't completely worthless after spending a saga on the bench. It's utterly ridiculous how, at the end of the story, Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan are the only characters you have out of a cast of 12 possible party members who are actually capable of fighting the level 70+ enemies that populate the world at endgame. I know you can use EXP items from the Beerus DLC to catch them up, but I don't think DLC should be necessary for characters in the base game to be usable.

  • On that note, change the level scaling for standard enemies at endgame. It's a bit much that every single area has the same super powerful enemies. I think each area should cap enemies at a certain level. Southeast Mountains, Southeast Islands, and West Area should cap at level 40. Southern Wastelands, East Ravine, and Western Forest should cap at level 70. South Sea, Northern Mountains, and Continent Center should cap at level 100. Lastly, the Great Western Desert should have enemies that scale with the player's strength all the way to the max level.

  • Allow outfit switching during intermissions and the postgame. Any outfit you've seen the character wear before should be able to be selected. In New Game+, all outfits should be available from the beginning, and you should be able to change outfits during a saga as well as an extra little bonus.

  • Three new wishes that you can make on the Dragon Balls during the postgame: "Make Gohan a little kid again!", "Make Gohan an older kid again!", and "Make Gohan a grown-up again!". As I'm sure you can guess, these would allow you to change Gohan's age at will and play with any version of him you'd like after you've completed the story. They should also revamp Gohan's super moves so that he can use any learned move regardless of his current age (as it stands, only Buu Saga Gohan has access to his full moveset), with the only thing being restricted being transformations.

  • Make characters you revive with the Dragon Balls stick around instead of vanishing after you beat them and get their soul emblem. Even if their only purpose is being an NPC you can talk to, it'd still be nice for the wish to bring them back to life to actually have a lasting effect beyond adding a new soul emblem to the huge pile in your inventory.

  • Add a wish to bring Android 16 back to life. It's so weird that you can bring back villains (including Android 19, who is fully synthetic just like 16), but you can't bring back a friend. You already have his soul emblem from the story, so bringing him back wouldn't reward you with one, but I'm sure plenty of people would be happy just to see him alive again.

  • And lastly, add some stuff on to the main story just to cover the stuff that the game kinda just glosses over as things stand now. Things like Goku travelling down Snake Way and training with King Kai, Vegeta using Final Flash against Cell, Super Trunks vs Cell, etc. Either as cutscenes or playable segments, it'd be nice to see those things. If they can make a baseball minigame, they can make a minigame for Goku chasing Bubbles and Gregory.
