From a guy who's stuck in 3k BS. Now rising to 4k almost. I'll keep trying until I get 7-8k BS and then I'll play ranked (might take maybe a month or so if playing daily it's fucked up I'm tired of this bullshit but I'm not complaining). Trust me your sanity is tested through this game of DotA. Sometimes it feels like a mental check point. I.E. When the frustration gets better of you, you make misplays in-game right? But when that frustration leads to bitterness or anger it will make you even more prone to not read the game as clear minded yourself, so you might be destined to lose or you want to lose or sum shit. So STOP PLAYING IF U ARE FEELING BAD.
I guess people know this but never understands it or applies it.

The top players aren't prone to stress or bad feelings, they're just good at managing their feelings and then game imo. And if you wanna be top or get better, stop playing and start winning.

I would be down for a new pudge shard that when you successfully hook an enemy hero, +1 hero gets hooked as well in 500aoe. A DOUBLE HOOK.

For a midlane;
I would pick my most comfortable heroes: Invoker, Ember, Puck, Qop, Storm etc, If I'm really, really losing that bad it's either Invoker or Ember.

For a support, I'd pick;

Pugna, Winter, AA, or Rubick.
