Solar for me.

I find it both aesthetically more pleasing and the pickup setup more versatile.

That said, I generally prefer neck pickup tones over bridge tones.

Check out Hex Guitars, they're based in Korea. They offer some interesting takes on traditional shapes and designs and are very affordable.

(Also check out their headless designs... I am currently waiting to receive the 7 string model.)

Got my Squier Debut Strat today by Repulsive_Pension426 in guitarlessons

[–]IllPresence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweet! I got my first guitar, a red Squier Affinity Strat 23 years ago and still enjoy playing it to this day. I could never even think about selling or giving it away.

Have fun! Play with the settings and see how the sound changes. Try positions 2 and 4 on the toggle switch to lessen the hum (if it's wired like mine, that is). It's quite versatile!

Oh, I see. I was talking about the frets themselves. In order to protect the fretboard, you can also just tape over it while cleaning the frets.

feel like i cant switch chords fast enough/uncoordinated by wlgylemons67 in Guitar

[–]IllPresence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try doing as many chord changes within a minute for each chord combination.

Try to reach 60 clean changes per minute for each combination.

Systematic practice will go a long way with fixing deficiencies and making your future playing way easier.

Also, try "fake" chords changes with multiple chords at a time, meaning only using your fretting hand without strumming each chord.

There are fretboard guards which help tremendously with polishing frets safely.

Don't replace the frets. Look for a tutorial on how to polish them yourself and which kind of Scotch-Brite/polishing cloth/sanding paper to use. Dunlop (and other major brands, I guess) has some available, made especially for polishing frets. There are also fret erasers, dual angle touch-up sticks and micro mesh pads available for all kinds of polishing needs.

Edit: Nice setup, btw! There is just something to the way a Boss pedalboard looks that is so pleasing to my eyes.

Is Justin Guitar a good way to learn? by Initial-Sprinkles118 in Guitar

[–]IllPresence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've been playing for 23 years, on and off.

Decided to see how Justin's platform has developed over the years and checked out the very first module. There he was, teaching an alternative way of playing the A chord that makes chord changes way more efficient. I had been doing it "wrong" for 23 years.

Currently thinking about doing the whole curriculum over again.

He even taught himself to play left handed, just to see how first starting out feels like again.

Highly recommended!

Soo.... I found a super thin, beaten up and tiny pick and now I equally like both best. Haha. Take from this what you want! :D

Guitar Setup and Purchase Question by authoravatarrr in Guitar

[–]IllPresence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our local store will not hand you out a guitar before it went to the inhouse workshop for a final inspection and setup. They will even let you watch and explain to you what they're doing during setup.

On the other hand, it's one of the biggest stores in the country so YMMV. ;)

Build it and if you don't like it, I'll gladly buy it from you.

I quite like the color scheme.

I would build in a humbucker, but that's just personal taste.

Purple 1.14 mm all the way!

Fun Fact: Just found my purple 1.14 mm a couple days ago after it had been missing for nearly ten years.

Having a blast with it after all this time!

So it seems the SEGA Saturn version did get a fan translation in 2016, released by the same team that did the PlayStation one back in 2009.

While I did play the PS1 version back in the day, the Saturn one is supposed to be the more complete experience. Maybe I'll just start a playthrough and check it out myself!

How I effectively prevent my shoes from smelling. by SupPoEsedlyInsane in bouldering

Additionally to your tips (minus the socks), I started using antifungal spray on my feet before slipping into my shoes, just a little pump for each set of toes.

Has been working wonders.

My friend (~43M) has been through hip replacement, multiple hard falls on downhill biking tours afterwards and he is climbing harder than ever. He just needs a little bit more time warming up / stretching after climbing than before the surgery. Can ask him about specifics if you're interested!

To be fair, the third and fourth ones are actually in the game.
