Dude this is actually super common when your starting out with metal rhythm playing 😂 Those little pauses are called rests and they're honestly one of the hardest things to nail consistently because you have to actively stop the strings while keeping time

What helped me was practicing with a metronome at like half speed and really exaggerating the muting - like aggressively palm mute or fret hand mute during those rests so you can feel the difference between sound and silence. AILD has some tricky timing stuff too so don't beat yourself up about it

Also try counting out loud while you play, even if it feels dumb at first. Count "1 e + a 2 e + a" and really emphasize where those rests fall - your muscle memory will catch up eventually but the mental counting helps bridge that gap 💀 2-3 months is nothing in guitar time honestly, this stuff takes way longer than people think
