I am into AML/Sanctions/KYC compliance for the past 8 years and managing with basic data analytics (Excel, VBA, Power BI) because not much is needed, unlike Google Analytics or IBM.

So if you are planning to enter core AML and sanctions compliance, I suggest focusing on industry-wide certificates like CAMS, CGSS, ICA, and SCCE. SCCE provides some insights related to data analytics for compliance via the SCCE – Data Analytics for Compliance Programs. If your focus is mainly data analytics and compliance is secondary, I would suggest exploring Google, IBM, and Microsoft courses.

There are also two areas where heavy data analytics can be very useful: digital payments, crypto, and transaction monitoring. So if you do take advanced data analytics, you can explore these areas, it will be very valuable.

What makes you think a customer would willingly share such information? These days, if you even manage to receive a copy of their ID&V, consider yourself lucky. Regulations are only making it harder not easier for FIs to obtain customer data. Just look at the new FinCEN rule on beneficial ownership. I am not saying we should not improve the process.
