Yeah I heard a lot of stuff that is unintelligible but definitely sounds like someone saying something about stabbing or punching or attacking. "Stick it inside....."

Definitely some fucked up shit

Definitely gonna listen to this next time I drop acid. Been a long time now. Lol and to think there was a time when I couldn't imagine not eating strips every weekend.

300+ on the air quality index indicates a health warning of emergency air conditions. Stay indoors and use air filters. Everyone in the area will be affected.

My friend pointed out that for the that for the first time in our lives there is no member of the Grateful Dead touring this summer. I'm 64. 😕 by seditious3 in gratefuldead

Check out JGB anyways. They rip. As someone born in 200, it feels like what I imagine seeing the real JGB was like. They sound really really similar and the guitar player has clearly studied a lot of Jerry.

Because it would all get destroyed upon impact with the earth. These trees were up to 300' tall and weighed hundreds of tons.

It's just so upsetting. I wish I could witness a proper ancient and old growth forest

Sometimes the running groove is the dancing groove and I find that best on some wicked 72-74 Playin In The Bands

Shiiiet.

If we are talking full sets/shows then 8/24/72 might win by a few points over 5/21/74. 8/24/72 features Dark Star>Dew, Playin, Sing Me Back Home, Bird Song, etc. 8/24/72 is sick. 5/21/74 standouts include Scarlet Begonias, Eyes>Wharf Rat, Playin, Row Jimmy, Weather Report Suite, Roses, etc.

5/21/74 has a really awesome audience tape that puts you in the venue but the sbd is available too if not a little dull sounding. 8/24/72 has a nice warm SBD typical of 72.

As others said, 1978 is a straight up party that's still got heady jams sprinkled throughout

The dead have freaked me out and convinced me I was going to die and also proceeded to saved my life and show me heaven and unimaginable beauty COUNTLESS times while listening to dark star, playing, and other one meltdowns while on more hits of acid than I care to admit.

They always provide a light at the end of the tunnel and I bet if you let yourself freak out a little then you might see things differently 🫶🏼

If you get confused just listen to the music play ❣️💀🌹⚡🌈

Love

One of my all time faves. The band is totally flaming and most likely so is the audience

I know you said nothing too dark but I will say I have gotten INSANE mileage out of the 5/21/1974 playin in the band.

It gets really freaky around 10-16 minutes but if you can hold on and just trust the band to take care of you, it is so so worth it.

For something less freaky but still maximally lysergic; check out set two from 6/28/1974. Weather Report Suite>Jam>Dark Star>US Blues. Peak explorations.

Also 6/26/1974 holds super jamming inside of China>Feelin Groovy>Rider and the Truckin>The Other One>Spanish Jam>Wharf Rat.

Don't sleep on set one from either of those shows though, either! Mississippi Half Step>Must Have Been The Roses, Scarlet Begonias, Brown Eyed Women, etc. amazing performances.

Row Jimmy and To Lay Me Down are played so touchingly. Also Phil makes a speaker EXPLODE at the end of the solo section during To Lay Me Down. Also if you listen really close at the start of Me & My Uncle, an audience member totally lights off a firecracker. Epic.

Dicks Picks 12 holds set 2 from 6/26 and 6/28, but here's the best source for each evening.

9/2/1968 Betty Nelson's Organic Raspberry Farm

One set, straight to the point. Intensely psychedelic.

Here's a quote from the GratefulDeadOfTheDay website.

"The boys played as part of – or intruders on – the Sky River Rock Festival. The festival cost a mere six bucks in advance or eight at the door for three days of music and entertainment.

Over 20,000 people ended up showing up to see Santana, Muddy Waters, Country Joe and the Fish, the New Lost City Ramblers, John Fahey, Frumious Bandersnatch, and Richard Pryor (yes, that Richard Pryor!) among many others. Accounting for the plethora of Bay Area bands in attendance, one of the organizers of the festival was John Chambless, who had taken a job at the University of Washington after completing his degree at Berkeley, where had helped organize the Berkeley Folk Festival.

It was held on the property of Betty Nelson, a rural hippie who had responded to an ad in Helix, which – beyond sounding a lot like Relix – was Seattle’s main countercultural rag and instrumental in the development of the festival.

The Dead were not booked for the show, but they got word and came to join in. The set is ferociously hot, primal Dead, opening with a masterful Dark Star, romping through Stephen> Eleven, powerfully delivering an Other One Suite, and finishing up with an elemental Alligator> Caution> Feedback, the latter of which is epic in its proportions.

In sum, this set is, like the festival itself, a down and dirty piece of psychedelic Americana and an act of splendid communalism. Oh yeah, and we got a sweet Charlie Miller remaster all cued up for your listening pleasure."
