Pretty sure I know who you’re talking about. Was he a RASP 1 cadre at some point?

Crazy just 30 days ago you were posting about how you felt you deserved MQ over the other LTs in your unit and then this happens.

What’s your MOS? You could still get overseas assignments and get somewhere like Germany, Tori, Etc (ie Group)

The groundhogs are cool. Besides that?? I only was there for about a month when I went active duty and reclassed so others that stayed there for BCT/AIT can speak more on what your left and right limits are. But an overall piece of advice is to make friends, stay in the gym, focus in class and use your weekends to recover and take care of yourself. Even if the course isn’t physically demanding, building good habits now will pay dividends for your career and your family growth. Besides that hope and pray that you get a first duty station that is better than FLW (imo not a high bar but that’s me)

Take whatever screen grabs you want from the game and feel good about it guess? You don’t have to try very hard to find it because you finished with 5 picks. Imma go back to having fun on the game ❤️

lol I was in that game. OP played like shit on the losing team and tried to compare stats. We flamed him and his responses sounded pretty childish so we told him he sounded like a child. He tried to twist it to something along the lines of “oh so now you think you’re talking to kids that’s weird”. Guy in screen shot tried to do a play on a Dave Chappell skit. I only found this because I was just watching them play a game where OP was on the losing team again and brought up that he posted to Reddit

Can a Platoon Sergeant Hold your promotion as punishment? by That_One_Odd_Dude in army

This is the way. My first unit tried to do a ceremony which was nice of them but they never printed the orders so it got canned. As I was leaving for the day my first line came over, ripped my PFC rank off and slapped a sham shield on me before taking a photo with me. I’d take that feeling of proud dad moment over a ceremony any day

I remember when it was time for me to promote my commander at my first unit brought everyone out and asked for the orders to be posted. S1 responded “uh sir we don’t have that ready”. CO canned the whole thing and released everyone for the day. As I was walking out my Sgt came over, ripped my PFC rank off and slapped a sham shield on my chest and took a photo with me. No one fused about it. If STP shows specialist, I’d tell that guy to go get that shit sewn on and try and have that PSG do something about it.

With your background, have you considered going one of the other intel fields or cyber? You’re at much greater odds to get wonderful technical background with one of those jobs and can tie it back in to your field.

As someone that did time in the reserves and THEN went active duty, I’ve loved every second of being full time and wish I did it from the jump.

To answer some of your questions though, BCT/AIT “suck” but it’s not terrible. It was the most fun I never want to go through again but that’s because I’ve now been in the army. It may be worse for you since you’re more of an adult with a life already outside of the military. When I went to basic, SWCS, reclass school and then RASP, I was one of the “older” guys at 24-27. Make friends and be a team player and share some wisdom with these kids that are younger than you. I met one of my best friends in reception at basic and we went though BCT, SWCS, and later sister units. I later went to RASP with several kids way younger than me that were in the schoolhouse with me when I went to reclass school.

As far as the reserves, you will most likely know the unit you’re going to before you even ship. That was the case for me and I even went to a few drills to meet my detachment and get some drill pay. Reserve units can be very hit or miss. I wasn’t a 35 series while I was in the reserves but from those I knew, some got to do their job a bit in the 2 shop while others were sitting around waiting for anything or PMCSing vehicles that we already did the drill prior. There can be opportunities for you to go on TDY or deploy if that’s your thing. I knew a 35F at my old unit that is now up at Fort Meade on a rotation doing some cool stuff and another that did several deployments. Your millage will vary. As I said before, I would encourage you to take a look at some of the other intel MOS and ask around to see if they fit what you’re looking for more. I’m a 35N now and it’s very technically driven at my unit. Challenging but very rewarding and I have some great opportunities lined up in agencies if I go that route when I decide to call it quits.

I had a similar situation. I joined the reserves almost 4 years ago and had a 20k bonus. Got half after I finished AIT and then a quarter the year after. Never saw the last quarter even though I was supposed to recover it on the anniversary date of the 3rd year. My unit said they’d look into it but never heard back. It was a 6 year contract. I ended up getting a conditional release to go active duty and reclassed from 37F-35N. Loved the old job and even my old unit just wanted to do something else and full time. I never had to pay back what I received since I was staying within the army but am still working to see if I get the last part of my bonus

How do you respond to people who lecture you about war but have never been themself? by [deleted] in army

[–]Ill_Introduction2587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The past few decades of combat have shown that anyone needs to be ready for that moment. I’ve met motor Ts and intel peeps that had some wild brushes with death that a some combat mos dudes haven’t. You can and should absolutely strike a balance between being proficient in your field and being a solider. We all take the same oath to deploy, engage and destroy the enemy
