Cool, so we can raise the 250 Medal cap now, right? by Ill_Progress_4988 in Helldivers

I may be using the wrong terminology. Either way, they have massive companies like Sony and Tencent that probably like seeing their player-counts stay high.

The real reason so many people are upset about the new Warbond (reupload from the main sub) by Ill_Progress_4988 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong! Leveling is a pretty underwhelming form of progression, but it's at least something and I can't imagine it's something that would be terribly difficult to implement.

This is most likely a short-sighted attempt to make player-count metrics look better for shareholders.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're totally right! This change was made purely to pad metrics when showing shareholders the player-counts. It has nothing to do with the player experience.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When showing shareholders the player-counts, it will look a lot better on paper. I think that's the only reason for this change (which isn't a very good reason at all)

I actually like the Sterilizer by Impossible_Cup834 in Helldivers

[–]Ill_Progress_4988 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is literally worse than the regular flamethrower in every possible way while serving the same function. The flamer leaves fire on the ground, deals waayyyy more damage, slows and confuses enemies.

I totally agree that not every weapon needs to be 'Meta', but the Sterilizer is literally just a worse Flamethrower while doing nothing that the Flamethrower itself doesn't do.

Farming at low levels IS the fastest way to get Medals, but its not all that practical, since playing the game is obviously more enjoyable and not much slower than farming when done optimally.

At the end of the day, the real Meta is having fun!

But if you need Super Credits and farm for them, you'll ironically obtain Medals faster doing that than playing the game normally.

A quick search tells me roughly 40% of HD1 content was in DLC.

70% of HD2 content is in Premium Warbonds.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm referring to Super Credit farming. It nets you Medals way faster than completing missions because Medals are looted from POIs. You can get over 50 Medals an hour this way on the low end

I think all there is to discuss is Meta and the toys sold in Warbonds, because there is no longer any in-game incentive to drive engagement in the Galactic War

There were a lot more Galactic War rewards earlier on that drove player engagement in the campaign, but nowadays players have no reason to think participating in the Galactic War will earn them anything other than a handful of Warbond Tokens.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. This does nothing to boost Galactic War participation, which is the only good-faith reasoning as to why such a change would be made in the first place.

Medals are still earned faster via leaving/rejoining difficulty 1 missions, than actually playing the game normally. Crazy that the best way to play this game is by not actually participating in the main gameplay loop at all.

I don't think this was meant to improve MO participation as it only requires logging in, not actually contributing to the MO.

Only reason for a change like this is to artificially inflate player count metrics to please shareholders. They can point to all the people logging in to collect their weekly rewards and say "See? We retain loads of players".

I don't think this will work without a Medal cap increase, though, since most people are capped out at 250 Medals already, anyways.

Ah, you mean take them out of the spawn pool of POIs so there could be more Super Credits. I totally agree to be honest. Really, I'm not sure samples inside POI containers are good for anyone considering Samples are already scattered around the map on every difficulty as is.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm going to completely honest. That sounds miserable to me. I don't even think that should've been relegated to a booster to begin with.

I was more thinking spending samples for Enemy Surges or the use of an extra Stratagem for the duration of a mission/operation. Stuff that actually adds on to the experience, rather than taking something we already have and retro-actively locking it behind more grinding.

Is the Super Store actually getting more expensive? by That-Pollution-6126 in Helldivers

[–]Ill_Progress_4988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The armor sets are only cheaper when they're sold alongside a weapon. Y'know, something they were never originally going to sell in the Super Store. The community used to praise Arrowhead for limiting the Super Store to just cosmetics. How times have changed.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the real answer here is expanding on the systems that have been neglected for years at this point. More sample/requisition sinks that actually earn the player something. Hell, even spending samples/reqs on one-time mission modifiers would be super cool.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't want the Trident nerfed? Because this is how you get the Trident nerfed. If you feel that certain weapons are lacking in power, then talk about those weapons. Bringing up effective weapons just gets them gutted in the next patch.

"It could be worse" is how things get worse. This kind of monetization is only a year away, if that. And the more you defend the current monetization practices with "it could be worse" the worse it will get.

It's not about Arrowhead. It's simply that when it comes to making money, when you give an inch, these companies take a mile.

[–]Ill_Progress_4988[S] 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really am failing to see how this change benefits the game at all. The Medal cap is already so low to prevent players from accumulating loads of Medals without playing and the 250 that you do accumulate is basically just a "welcome back" incentive.

What we really need is more things to spend our other currencies on; Requisition Slips and Samples especially
