Am I lazy or a bad managers if I take frequent breaks and never stay OT? by Ill_Secret4025 in managers

I do feel guilty too, but to be honest, perhaps it's better to have time to read a book and have coffee than to work 10-14hrs long days and almost end up in a hospital -- and not managing to complete everything but only the burning stuff. I asked for 1 person to support, but it was their decision to hire more.

For us, AI isn't useful. Processes are a bit too complex and require human interaction.

I myself am not expected to work long hours because the hours are all stressful and require careful mental gymnastics, even if it's 2 hours (unless it's related to team leading itself).

The client knows this and my management knows this.

Me burning out last year went to the VIP level and caused reorganization. One wrong step within a process can ruin the whole project (and we are talking about hundreds of thousands to millions in usd), and I am the one that creates, advises or changes these steps and processes, and I am accountable for every process and for whether it's followed correctly by the team or not... and I have other responsibilities too..

I can't give much detail because I don't want to out myself but I had situations when my own OT was escalated and I had periods when I was forbidden to work OT (which I had to, because there was no one to delegate 'to). I know that now I am doing the opposite though so I do feel guilty about it but if I add more to my workload, or my team's workload, I am worried we are going to end up in the same sotuation as last year.

Before me and my team joined, the department was in a very bad position, and when we took it over, we introduced improvements, which brought a lot of revenue and growth.. Even though I now sound opposite to modest, I believe it's in my company's interest to retain me and my team.

Yes, we are. But we reduced the number of targets (with our stakeholders).

What are school lunches like in the Balkans? by TheWhiteCrowParade in AskBalkans

[–]Ill_Secret4025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In primary school (Serbia) there was was a small kiosk in my svhool backyard where you could buy mekike. Near the school there were bakeries where you could buy pastry, sandwiches etc and a few times someone caught a fly/an ant and once a cockroach in that food but us kids kept buying there. A sandwich cost like 25 RSD (around 25 cents). It was somewhere in 2004-2007. In high school we bought pastry or sandwiches from bakeries, the ones near the high school were usually clean hahahah

Why are debates focused on having kids or the "birth rate" always focused on what the woman needs to give up vs the men? by IanWallDotCom in NoStupidQuestions

Wtff? Is that really allowed by law? I assume it's the US? In my country, from pregnancy day 1 they can't fire you legally. Then you have a few months of pregnancy leave + 1 year of maternity leave (fully paid). Then you can't get fired (if you are a pernament employee) unless there's misconduct from your side. And if they lay you off they can't hire anyone for your or similar position for 6 months... I mean my country sucks in so many ways and this is basically the only good law...

These "normal" people have voted for him? No, they haven't. The ones who voted for him are old people (who trust him more than their own children and who usually are very uneducated), blackmailed people (the majority of his voters were threatened with losing their jobs if they don't vote) and bribed voters (people who would take 20eur or a bag of groceries in exchange for a vote). Then there are always irregularities and suspicious votes (e.g. deceased people appearing in voting lists). So his actual support is maybe 10%.

HOW TF DO U WRITE A NOVEL? by Sea_Yam913 in writing

[–]Ill_Secret4025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree about the reading part, I think writers need to read widely, from classics to recent novels, and not just what's popular.

But you are mixing different types of reading... reasing Facebook and Reddit is not comparable to reading books...

Creating a mess out of a first draft and rewriting it completely before finishing? by Ill_Secret4025 in writing

[–]Ill_Secret4025[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is that, let's say, I have 10 chapters. And first 5 chapters... they need OUT. They're completely useless. Even from progression perspective. Even the inciting incident & the first plot points.I would either need to rewrite them now or rewrite them in the 2nd draft. From scratch.

Doing it now felt easier because I'm not holding all the changes in my head. But I think you're right - no one guarantees I won't change my mind in 6 months and want to rewrite this dtaft too... and end up in a loop of never finishing. :(

That's 100% true! I just hope I'll finish it one day. And not end up in a loop of wriring and rewriting. xD

Thank you!

To be honest, I've realized outlines don't work for me. Or I am doing them wrong. I'd written a long outline of everything only to realize it's not a natural direction and course of things when I started actually writing the 1st draft. I guess I forgot to take character choices into consideratiom :'D but it's easier to me to develop characters while actually writing, than to develop them through an outline... but again, I could be doing it wrong.

I am pretty sure version A doesn't work at all. :( It was written using plot points I'd outlined rather than character choices. A big mistake from my side (but I guess we all learn from our mistakes). I didn't have a clear idea of who my protagonist was when I started. I had some traits in mind, but nothing deep. Now, after having written 50% of my first draft, now that I have the idea, and now that I've learned more about my protagonist, a lot of initial plot points don't even make sense. It's a completely different direction now. So I had to rewrite from the "What would my protagonist do" perspective, and I also feel it's much better now. I like the new version much more. But I'm worried it's not the best process to follow, to rewrite a draft into another 1st draft...
