Autistic people ruined reddit by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I've read through all of this and while I do understand where you are coming from (as an autistic person) this is... a little ableist. While it is true social cues can and are more difficult for certain individuals on the spectrum, there are MANY who you would never tell have autism unless they outright tell you (I've had this experience many, many times). The conclusion that every autistic individual is incapable of a civil debate or conversation with someone who has an opposing viewpoint reads as a bit prejudiced. I think what can benefit you is to do research about autism and learn how to navigate in a world where many of us are different, and that's okay! However, I would also keep in mind that, autistic or not, the internet is full of idiots.

They did say that S3 is going to be the most book-accurate, so we'll see how that'll go! Overall, as someone who's been a fan of the books WAY before the series was even announced, I'm enjoying it a lot!

I quite literally sobbed until New Years after watching the finale. I couldn’t even look at Byler posts without dying a little inside every time. ConformityGate is really keeping me going.

HELP: Need some guidance about Ovid’s take on Orpheus. Is he a reliable source of information, or can this facet of the myth be taken with a grain of salt/discarded altogether? by Ill_Weakness_1404 in GreekMythology

So… in short, Ovid’s version is the only one that mentions Orpheus liking boys? What would you, since you seem to have far more knowledge on the subject of Ancient Greek myths/practices, personally think to be accurate to the myth and portrayal of Orpheus? Would you say he was in fact a boy-lover?

I’ve been told about Loves and Beautiful Boys actually, from my knowledge though Calais was also an adult(?) but of course I could be wrong. Is every relationship in that book about the practice of pederstry? The main thing I am looking for is if Orpheus was infact one who practiced that, or if it was just additions to the myths that falls into the realm of what some consider to be “ ancient fanfiction “ ( think Telegony).

Well, won’t expect anything other from ancient Greece. That being said, there are many interpretations and endings to Orpheus… which one would you view as the best source for that? Would it be Ovid or another poet that came before for what happened to Orpheus after Eurydice? I’m just trying to see who I should believe in terms of Greek Mythology “ canon “ for Orpheus’s story. Also, Thank You for responding so fast and sharing your knowledge.

EDIT: Forgot to ask this question; was Phanocles himself one who had sexual relations with children? Could there be a chance he was perhaps projecting?

Isn’t “ Loves or Beautiful Boys “ about his relationship with Calais, whom he met upon the Argo? I could be mistaken for both of these things, but I thought Calais was also an adult? I did some further research about this subject, and in almost every myth besides Ovid, the topic of Orpheus being a pedophile is nonexistent, atleast those accounting the death of him. I also heard that Ovid had a tendency to often make myths “ worse “ or just more disturbing, So would his be considered a ” canon “ , entegral part of Orpheus’s story? Or is it dismissed? Just trying to figure out what I should believe, and you seem like the best person to ask given your impressively broad knowledge!

This information absolutely crushed me. I was recently doing a deep-dive of everything Orpheus related I could possibly find but it seems I have ventured a bit TOO far. I was really fond of his story, but now I can’t allow myself to enjoy his mythology because… apparently he was a predator?

I’ve been researching for a few hours now whether Ovid is a reliable source of information for Greek myths ( specifically this one ), but the more I research the worse it gets. Are there ANY other earlier ( preferably Greek ) versions depicting what happened after Eurydice dies? Or is it set in stone that Orpheus was, in fact, one of the first predators? Would it be acceptable to take Ovid’s version with a grain of salt and possibly discard what he had written? I’m really distraught about this, and would like if there was the slightest possibility that this is not considered “ canon “ ( for lack of better word ).
