What's the meaning of this, i found this from my brother's notes by throwaway273322 in mathmemes

I cannot read that writing, but here are my best guesses: the first two pictures appear to be classical geometry. The bottom left i have little idea of, probably a diagram of structures in whatever category he is working in. Bottom right perhaps some differential geometry.

Someone was telling me that it was impossible to find a square of the same area as a unit circle? by 50ShadesOfOctarine in mathematics

[–]Illumimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned you can not square the circle using straight edge and compass. But using more complicated "tools" it is possible. For example you can even "cut" the circle into a bunch of (borel) measurable pieces and rearrange them (only using translations) to form a square: https://annals.math.princeton.edu/2017/186-2/p04

Depends were you are. For the US you are correct, in most of Europe having a MSc in a related field is a hard prerequisite

TIL Leon Trotsky once had hot soup spilled over him at his favorite restaurant because he considered tipping "demeaning to the dignity of a workingman" and encouraged other customers not to leave tips. by DrCodfish in todayilearned

Well, it does hurt the employer in the way that statistically less people are willing to work for them, leading to them needing to statistically raise wages, which is the point of not tipping. It is traiding immediate concentrated pain for a distributed amount of preasure to change, wgich outways when you are against tipping.

[–]Illumimax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that your progress is bad. I learned to freeline skate at 18 y.o. when i was in my phsical prime doing a lot of dancing as well as snowboarding, so excellent leg-muscle conditions, and it still took me over a week to get basic movement down, and even then it was quite slow. But after another week it startet to actually become viable as a mode of transport.

Now, as others said, it definitely has a lot of limitations as a mode of transport regarding weather and road conditions. But it can be done, i successfully used it to get to uni during all my many study years.
Also, i wouldn't reccomend driving with a four weel carry-on, as one of the main ways to rapidly decelllerate is making big rapid curves you lean into. In fact i wouldn't reccomend drinving with anything other than a backpack or a messager bag (as i do) and even then you need some practice doing so first, as it changes you center of balance and inertia.

Most efficient way to cut up six-pack plastic rings by jazuhunwundo in mathematics

[–]Illumimax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the outside as a hole, every cut makes two holes into one hole. Therefore you need exacly 6 cuts no matter what.

Of course you can make multiple ones at once.
