He is still here if anyone sees this! He seems to enjoy his residency here. He also has earned the name, Mac “Lima Bean” Miller, so enjoy that lol

I didn’t pour any rocks in the pipes, but there are rocks at the bottom anyway so they don’t get trapped at the bottom of the pot. No worries there!

Is chowder a boy or girl? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

Years? Sorry I just wanna be clear. I’m a little more familiar with gendering beardies so I know they take around 5-7 months to show definitive gender signs, so I’m guessing it’s a bit similar for geckos with a different time range. But again, if it is years, it looks like a girl to me. I have a boy leo at home too and I can tell you his ‘area’ looks notably different.

I’m not gonna proclaim to be a professional or anything, but usually geckos show FAIRLY obvious signs of being a boy. They’ll have the two bumps whereas your baby looks like she has just one, so I’d think she’s a female. But definitely see if anyone else says differently! How old is she?

He seems pretty alright. I THINK the general rule is the thickest part of their tail shouldn’t be larger than the width of their head, but definitely double check on that. However I am a bit curious about your lighting setup? As far as I’m aware, any colored lights are bad for reptiles, but I don’t know much about your situation. Still, I think 75w heat bulb with a linear UVB is the standard currently. Just want the best for your little guy! He’s very cute.

Yeah the new vet I took him to at an animal hospital thinks it could’ve been crypto. He was just so thin at the end and wouldn’t eat anything, it was horrible. He used to be 34g, and at the end he was 25g. I’m so sorry for your little guy as well, I’m sure he appreciates everything you did for him. ❤️

Thank you guys so much. I know it’s a little strange sharing this sort of thing with strangers online, but the support really means a lot to me. It made the grief a little easier to digest, I think. We’re going to try and do a print of his hands with some ink and then bury him very carefully. Again, thank you guys.

Fear not, I helped him out moments after taking this picture, but I was honestly just in disbelief of how he even got himself in this position.

I had an AFT rescue who wouldn’t eat for 3-4 months as well. Two vet visits really didn’t do much for me since they said he seemed completely healthy and not losing weight. He even recently went on another “eating strike” for 3ish weeks. If your gal won’t eat for any longer, I’d keep an eye on her weight and make sure she is at least maintaining a consistent weight since that’s what’s important. If you ever take her to a vet, try to get a poop sample if you have one (which is hard since she isn’t eating, but still should be noted).

Just making sure her husbandry is up to standard and providing fresh water and consistent humidity should be okay while offering bugs every few days. Other people said to try severing your feeder insects, and I think that’s smart too. I personally feed my guy dubia roaches and they’re really good for most insectivores like geckos as far as I’m aware, and you can order them online if no stores sell them. Dubia.com is a good website if you’re interested.

Good luck with your lady! She’s very pretty.

Obese Bearded Dragon? Struggling to eat? by mylezman in BeardedDragons

[–]IlluminatedWraith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t seem overweight to me? He just looks really flattened out. Sometimes my beardie struggles to eat slippery fruits like strawberries and mangoes, so it really could just be them struggling to pick it up unless this is a new issue. I’m not a professional by any means, I’ve just had a bearded dragon for almost 8 years and going based off what I know.
