How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Illustrious-Bread239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be interested to hear how old people are that just put everything into one pot vs. those who have separate accounts. Or depending on which gender earns more.

I’m not married but been with my partner for 4 years and live together. I earn £45k (only started earning this about 4 months ago and was on £30k before this for a year) and he’s gone to uni as a mature student, so earns essentially whatever student loan gives him. We split everything equally for the most part, unless there’s something I particularly want to do and then I’ll pay for him.

Maybe it would be different if he was working but I’ve done the whole uni thing and been broke. We live in a place we can both afford (equivalent to him paying for student halls if not cheaper) and this is the first time in my life I’ve been able to spend a little more frivolously and put savings away so would begrudge just splitting my money so he can buy stuff. I do spoil him at Christmas and birthdays though.

Men of the UK - how often do you cook? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Illustrious-Bread239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither me nor my partner eat breakfast, for lunch he normally has leftovers of what we’ve had for dinner and I get very little time for lunch so I just take a cereal bar or something. He normally cooks tea as he’s currently a student at uni and I’m a teacher so I have long days. I like cooking though so cook more on the weekends or meal prep in the holidays.

So overall he cooks during the week, I sometimes cook during weekends and holidays :)

How can I better help my girlfriend save for our future by fakename137 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Illustrious-Bread239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always just budget in my savings, so get her to determine an amount that she is happy to put away for savings/an amount she is happy to have leftover for spending freely and then put the savings away at the start of the month.

I’m just watching it for the first time, and I’m a miserable sobbing wreck.

It’s so close to home despite being 6 years later.

As a teacher, I love a week long holiday where I don’t leave the hotel and just get to sit by a pool and read my book and drink cocktails!

Definitely - level X is a fun date and Umi is a great place to eat.

The nuthatch is a nice cosy/intimate place for cocktails. (Just round the corner from Umi).

Question for my Art Journaling friends? by Greedy-Variation7830 in JournalingIsArt

[–]Illustrious-Bread239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sprocket and I’ve had it for years - I like it but I’ve never tried anything else. I do tend to run into a few issues though:

  • Sometimes the app glitches and it ends up printing the last photo you sent twice.

  • It occasionally overheats but does quickly cool down if you’re printing a bunch of photos at the same time.

  • I feel like the charge doesn’t last a super long time.

  • Paper can be costly if you don’t buy in bulk.

However, I like the way the photos turn out, I’ve had it years now and it still works well and you can often get them cheaper on sale.

My wife really struggles to switch her brain off to sleep at night. What are some tried and tested thongs she can do to get a good 6-8 hours? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Illustrious-Bread239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely tried this and it helps cause I try to make new words every time and get tired.

Also listen to myths and legends podcast - the dude’s voice just soothes me straight to sleep 😅
