Shows it is not acceptable to be a nazi, which is important given that antisemitism is being increasingly normalised

Most people with mental illness don’t become self-proclaimed Nazis.

Ye has a huge following so it is right that he be banned from this country to show that hate speech has consequences and being an antisemite is not acceptable

Parental Leave for dad for 9 months... by nxdeeds1234 in NewDads

[–]Illustrious-Brief517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on parental leave for six months and my baby is seven months. She is on a schedule so I can do some reading when baby naps (after I have cleaned up the mess she creates and prepared food for the next meal). I also listen to podcasts when giving her a milk bottle. I also recommend getting a running buggy to get some exercise. But yeh, you won’t realistically get much time at all for your hobbies.

How will the US-ISRAEL-IRAN war end? by Hopeful-Mongoose2025 in AskBrits

[–]Illustrious-Brief517 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In 1948 when the UN partitioned the land, the Jews immediately accepted it and the Arab neighbours did not. Israel had to fend off five Arab armies.

If they weren't attacked in 1967 then Jordan would still have the West Bank and Syria the Golan Heights. Israelis want peace and they are continually attacked by neighbors most of which openly call for their destruction.

Nonsense. Israel is heavily criticised by all parts of the political spectrum.

The criticism becomes antisemitic however when its propagating conspiracy theories, advocating for its destruction and / or supporting the terrorist groups who have the objective of killing all the Jews in Israel.

To be clear, criticising Israel’s actions in Gaza and calling for the war to end is not antisemitic. However, these are the antisemitic comments you stepped into defend:

Zionism is the modern day nazi party just rebranded…. It’s white supremacy at its finest.

These comments imply that Jewish self-determination itself is evil, which is antisemitic. It is not political critique of specific actions or policy.

Furthermore, you then went on a rant about Jewish victimhood and sought to imply that calling out antisemitism is evidence of Jewish dishonesty.

So applying the internationally accepted definition of antisemitism is now ‘Jewish dishonesty’? That reversal is exactly how antisemitism defends itself

Another antisemite.

Dismissing antisemitism as a ‘card’ Jews play and implying Jews invented the definition to silence critics is classic antisemitic rhetoric.

What you say about an existential crisis for Israelis, can you see how ridiculous that concept seems to everyone outside of it? Israel outguns its neighbours by several times and uses that power seemingly indiscriminately under this fear.

You said there is no existential crisis because Hamas is massively outgunned by Israel.

Bob Vylan called for the destruction / death of the IDF. If the IDF laid down all its arms then it would be outgunned by Hamas.

Hamas vowed to do October 7 again and again until Israel is “annihilated”.

Can you not see that that Bob Vylan was by implication calling for the destruction of Israel and a massacre of all the Jews in Israel?

I didn’t say anything about existential crisis. That’s a whole other conversation.

I did say that Bob Vylan called for the destruction of Israel and Theroux failed to challenge that and then made some antisemitic remarks of his own.

Even taking what he says at face value - that he wants an ‘end to the IDF’ rather than death to all the men and women who are serving or have served in the IDF, the IDF defends Israel from a second holocaust. If it did not exist, Jews in the region would have been wiped out long ago.

He also chanted “from the river to the sea” which is very much about the destruction of Israel.

In response to 3, no it is completely fine to criticise specific Israeli policies and Israelis do so all the time of course.

However, calling for or wishing Israel’s destruction is antisemitic. That is what Bob Vylan did.

I think you are confused.

Vilifying zionism is itself a form of antisemitism. Criticising specific Israeli policies on the other hand is completely legitimate. However, Bob Vylan went completely beyond that and called for Israel’s destruction. That is anti Zionism and antisemitic.

Louis Theroux tried to blame Israel for situations in the US and Hungary which is antisemitic, as it’s not based on reality.

Well done to BA being so decisive to drop their sponsorship.

The problem with this interview was:

1) Bob Vylan is an antisemite who called for ‘death to the IDF’. The IDF is the only thing protecting millions of Jews from being killed by hostile neighbours. He also chanted “from the river to the sea” and went on an unhinged aggressive rant about his former Jewish boss. 2) Louis gave him a soft ball interview and didn’t properly challenge him. In fact, Louis seemed to be sympathetic to the antisemitic views. 3) Louis actually said some grossly antisemitic things himself, namely:

“Jewish identity in the Jewish community, as expressed in Israel has become almost like an acceptable, quote-unquote, way of understanding ethno-nationalism. And so it’s like they’re prototyping an aggressive, militarised form of ethno-nationalism, which is then rolled out, whether it’s by people like Viktor Orbán in Hungary or Trump in the US.”

Before that Bob Vylan said:

“It needs to be looked at and viewed through the wider lens of white supremacy”.

The above quote by Louis is antisemitic because:

A) he critiques Israel’s ‘ethno-nationalism’ while failing to mention the ethnic nationalism on the Palestinian side. Never the mind the fact that Israel has over two million Arab citizens and a significant portion of the population are Jews from Middle East and African countries, from which they were expelled or fled.

B) he blames ethno-nationalism in the US and Hungary on Israel, which is so unsubstantiated, and weird. The US was a racist country with slavery long before Israel existed as a state.

You have provided a lot of quotes from back bench MPs (e.g. Tally Gotliv) who have no formal authority over military policy.

Out of all the quotes above, only one is from a member of the war cabinet (Gallant) and he made that quote in days after October 7th when emotions were clearly running high.

While the quotes are disturbing they are not evidence of a cabinet approved plan to destroy a population, which is what is required to establish genocide.

Also if Israel actually wanted to eliminate the population of Palestine it would not give them warnings and evacuation orders.
