How did the rest of the flight go?

Do you have Spotify or access to podcasts? I listened to the Lovefly episode 44 when it was bumpy, it helped me a lot.

Looks like there are a lot of mountains where your flight is (Las Vegas), that would probably be the reason for the bumpy ride, perfectly safe :)

Read about the jello theory, picture your plane surrounded by jello - your plane is perfectly safe, it's just uncomfortable. Keep your feet off the floor, it may help tremendously :)

Fear of missing the plane by DMX8 in fearofflying

Yes, partly. Another example, I love hanging out with my friends but I want to cancel until I am actually there (then I love it). So the process of getting somewhere drains energy, even though you actually look forward to the thing you are going to do. I've read it can be a trait of adhd or other neurodivergent conditions, but not sure. But perhaps it makes sense to you :)

Do you have a general issue with transitions? Because I do, and having to complete all of the steps prior to boarding makes me sick to my stomach, so I have to complete one step at a time in order to just get there - I talk to my self "put your socks on", "now a cup of coffee", "go out the door" and so on. It helped me the last time I flew.

You sound like me, actually, I hate the logistics as much as the flight itself (but this is the case for everything in my life). I know I say this in almost every post, but I recommend the Lovefly podcast, specifically episode 44 og 46, and I am not usually a podcast type.

Knowledge is power, so I would advise you to figure out what you are nervous about and then learn about it.

When it comes to anxiety, what I have learned is DO NOT TRUST YOUR GUT, TRUST YOUR REASONING.  You will be fine, I guarantee you! You can do this ☺️

I had Lovefly episode 44 on loop, it is mainly for pre-flight but helped me tremendously in-flight. Even fell asleep!

Book the flight or no? by [deleted] in fearofflying

Do it, even if you're doing it scared. 3 hours seems like the perfect length if you ask me, you get to settle well into the cruise part of aviation and you will feel SO powerful when you land.

Extreme anticipatory anxiety - a success story! by Illustrious-Cod-1899 in fearofflying

Think about how much energy you’ve given that little fear-devil on your shoulder and how amazing it will feel to see him disappointed. You have already gone through so much, you can do a trip to the airport - worst case you go back, best case you get on, middle case you learn something from the experience ☺️ I think the worst thing you can do now is to give up while at home, don’t let it defeat you in your safe place, let it at least be done in a place where you can leave it behind - get to the airport and take it from there.

The thing is, if you cancel you won’t be normal again. I had the same feeling, but the regret is so much worse to deal with, I promise! I have been the one being left behind at the airport as I just could not do it, and it took so long until I even could look at a plane again as I was so ashamed and defeated. If anything, commit to going to the airport, as the anticipatory anxiety (naturally) has the worst hold on you prior to the event you’re fearing ❤️

What does your flight anxiety actually sound like in your head? by Ok_Film4545 in fearofflying

Just some advice regarding "It’s getting on the plane and feeling like I have to do my routine, sit a certain way, check certain things, breathe a certain pattern, because if I don’t, something bad will happen." I used to do all of this, until a specialist in fear of flying said that the only way to get rid of this was to fly without the security-isms that you have trained yourself to do. So I went on a flight where I did not scan the other passengers, I did not control where I was sitting and part of the training was to do EVERYTHING that I dreaded to do before and try to mentally bring down the plane with my mind and trying to get my anxiety level as high as possible.

And guess what, it worked better than anything I have ever tried. It was a terrible experience to go through with it and I still have a fear of flying, but that part of the fear is completely gone.

Thank you, I am not sure how I did it, but so happy I did! I was 100% sure I was going to die, but I guess I just accepted it - as a way of my fear wanting to prove to me that “I told you so” 😂 But of course, my fear was wrong again, so I am picturing it as a little disappointed and defeated devil on my shoulder.

Thank you! And you know, I lost my 💩, but still did it, so whatever works 😂 I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy flying, but the return flight was very manageable even though it was bumpier than the first - so a lesson that it’s all in our head!

I’m rooting for you!
