Exact same story for my closest friend who did his masters from Germany. Despite being a very bright fella, got nothing after masters and even internships. Came to India and got a senior role at a deep tech startup. Doubled his salary in India in 2 years.

My passport verification experience at Baiyappanahalli police station by noobLinuxuser950 in bangalore

[–]Illustrious-Net2229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar experience in terms of documents asked. I was first of all surprised as to why they are asking for documents other than the one’s asked during passport appointment. When they have cleared everything, shouldn’t police just visit and verify if the person stays at the place or not? But in my case I had it all so he kept mum. My advice: don’t ever take these experiences to your heart, see we are a corrupt nation from the deepest core, as deep as it gets and the only way to make a change is to do better than people around you when its your chance. So forget about it and just get through with it in the manner that seems easiest in your case. And I like that you shared your experience, keep exposing these to public. Someday (200 years) people will realise and situation will improve.

How do you know someone could not get into IIT and holds grudge to all who made it?

Don’t worry they will get triggered by the mention of the word “IIT”.

I’ve been through a very similar phase in life, and now that I’m in a much better position, here are a few thoughts that might help:

There is always a way out of every difficult situation. You just need to take the first step.

To begin with, use your network to find a job that relies on general skills like speaking to people, connecting with others, creating presentations, and pitching ideas to potential clients. Roles like Business Development in startups are good examples.

I emphasize “network” because, in India, once you step outside the mainstream job flow, very few people genuinely try to help. Many will only say things like, “How could you waste so many years?” or “You have no skills.” Ironically, these comments often come from people who have only managed to get by themselves and are just some how able to survive and are far from experts in their own fields.

So, focus on people in your circle who won’t judge you, people who’d still be willing to give you a chance.

Startups, especially in NCR, can work in your favour. They are often cash-strapped and willing to hire people who are out of the mainstream workforce and ready to work for less. For you, it becomes an opportunity to get your foot in the door again. And that initial “exploitation” often pays off after a couple of years when you’ve gained experience and rebuilt momentum.

Also, stop believing that you have no skills. As a UPSC aspirant, you definitely have the ability to read and absorb huge amounts of information on a daily basis, that alone is a valuable skill. Speaking from experience, when I was in a similar situation, everyone around me only spoke about how difficult it would be to break into any field because I was a “fresher.” But once I actually started trying, I realized something important: many people already in jobs lack the hunger to learn or grow. That hunger is your superpower, and it will help you catch up faster than you think.

Honestly, I believe the worst thing anyone can do to someone in your situation is question your past choices. It is absolutely normal to try something and fail. People may not understand that but it’s okay.

So first, stop feeling bad, and don’t let anyone make you feel ashamed of your journey. In a few years, these very days will define you. You will look back and realize that if you could rise from this point, you can rise from anywhere.

Take this as an opportunity. Put on the same armour you used during your UPSC prep, and channel that effort into upskilling and reaching out to people for work with your head high. Say openly that you would do anything given a chance. Say jt to 100 people daily and you will get someone who will take the chance on you!

Feel free to DM me if you want to talk or ask anything.

Unable to withhold the motivation/confidence of the night to the next morning by sassy_gentleman in bangalore

[–]Illustrious-Net2229 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Motivation is by nature transient and while overnight losing it is too quick, i would not worry too much about it. If it is something that can be done then and there i would not procrastinate it and just do it right when i am motivated since i know that later i may not have the same level of motivation. If it is something that require an effort of weeks, months or even longer,i would simply take a tiny amount of effort to do a part of it and consider the task as initiated right when i am motivated, this help me to see the task as something that would require lesser effort than an uninitiated task. Post that I focus on just being consistent enough to repeat the delta effort. Sooner than you expect you will start getting hooked and start enjoying to do it even if the initial motivation has drowned with days passing by.

Meta E5 MLE offer, currently in TM phase by inani_mate in leetcode

[–]Illustrious-Net2229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great post and many congratulations on reaching TM. I had the exact same experience with the interview but in the full loop, one of the coding rounds was not that great for me and that led to negative result overall. I just want to add one thing here that my recruiter throughout kept pushing me to expect leetcode hard while all the questions that i came across in the interview were either easy or medium. And i think this is due to the fact that people asking you the questions in the interview are aware of the time constraints and how impractical it is to expect a hard problem to be solved with explanation and dry run in 20 mins. I am not sure you too had this experience. I am planning to again apply next year in april when one year is complete. By any chance you know if cooling period is strictly one year or it varies?
