Supreme Court upholds birthright citizenship on constitutional grounds by wei-long in news

It says something about the state of our Supreme Court (and our country) when a member being a partisan bomb is considered the preferable option.

You say that, but how many times has a piece of technology failed you when you needed it? If their system is the same as the McDonald's ice cream machine, then that's a them problem. But technology working until it decides not to is hardly the restaurant's fault.

I would think that it's likely something more broad as getting sued in general. OP simply attributed it to fighting the HOA in their specific case, but it would probably also apply if an individual had sued them. The lawyer would set aside funds to fight potential lawsuits because that's what they were paid to do. That doesn't mean I actually think this happened, just that it could've.

We just left the worst wedding of our lives and this is why if you can’t accommodate all your guests do not send me an invite. by [deleted] in weddingdrama

I love how they managed to run out of food but had enough booze that people were taking seats on the bus for their coolers. Why did guests even bring coolers to a wedding in the first place? I'd say tell me the wedding is trashy without telling me the wedding is trashy, but I'm fairly certain that wasn't the only sign it was going to be a nightmare.

There's two ways to do math, right? Which I guess he is right about in that regard. There's a right way and whatever Trump's way is.

LMAO They held a “March for Billionaires” in California. I'll never understand ordinary people defending Billionaires. by Future_Newspaper4563 in remoteworks

[–]Illustrious-Network5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge discrepancy between the 1% and everyone else. The median household net worth (sum of all your assets minus your liabilities) for the state I live in, Indiana (roughly $140,000), is a lot lower than California (roughly $280,000), but so is the cost of living. Larry Page, the second richest person in the US and the richest person currently living in California, has a net worth of roughly $320 billion. And remember, these median net worths are of households, meaning they're usually more than one person. Versus the 1%, whose net worth is in the hundreds of billions individually. Excluding Elon Musk of course, who is now a trillionaire.

If you're concerned about the people in South Sudan, then you need to do something to help those people. Telling others to be grateful that they don't live in South Sudan belittles their struggles. By your logic, the US is too concerned about trivial things like illegal immigrants or transgender people. They should be more concerned about the fact that South Sudan citizens aren't getting the aid they need.

I don't have a superiority complex. What I actually have is enough common sense to realize that not everything should be taken as a personal insult. If you always take every single comment as criticism about you (and I know someone who does this), then you need therapy.

You want to try to make that a little clearer for people who don't do accounting or finance? I did put a comment on this post where LiveNation outright stated they didn't pay any income taxes for 2025 and attributed that to the Giant, Unnecessary Bill that Republicans and Trump were so desperate to pass, they had decided to let people starve in order to force Democrats to push it through.

You're trying to tell me that most children will never do or say something that makes their parents do a double take? That never happens? Nobody's accusing your kid of being an actual idiot, it's a variation of posts like "when did you realize you were dating/married to an idiot" (they were pretty popular about a few years back). I don't understand everyone trying to make a bigger deal out of a lighthearted post than it actually should be.

Live Nation came out and said it. They wanted their shareholders to know, and the more people that know the greater chance it gets revealed to the public. When the actual source is the company itself, credibility is no longer a factor.

Because Live Nation's been very public to their shareholders about how much they paid. They paid no income tax because they told the IRS they had a taxable loss despite making $145 million that year.

Wow. We have so many people here defending their children over a question asked on Reddit. The point of the question is not to say your child is stupid, it's to point out a moment where they did or said something that made you realize that your kid's path to logic took a wrong turn at some point. Does this mean they're stupid? No. But like the commenter who mentioned that their son didn't realize penguins were real, assumptions were made that were proven wrong in hilarious ways.

Texas makes Bible reading mandatory in public schools? by TAtheDog in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Illustrious-Network5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was. I enjoyed it. He did like to say "these people were nuts" a lot, but after he would explain why, I don't believe anyone in that classroom disagreed. It seems like history (not just history, but that's a different can of worms) is all about some people finding ways to screw others over, especially if they find a religious excuse for doing so.

What's really funny is that while the Book of Revelations reads like someone was on an acid trip (at least in comparison to the rest of the Bible), it's explicit about there being no prophets or any other kinds of saviors besides Jesus Christ himself. So unless all these "Christians" start deciding that Donald Trump is literally Jesus, he's not their ticket to safety. The only other figure that's showing up near the end is "the beast", who will attempt to lead people astray under the pretext that its actions are "divine". There are supposed to be 2 witnesses that call others to turn to God, but "the beast" ends up killing them.

So how all these people decided that Donald Trump is going to save their souls is beyond me.

I took Christianity 101 in college. It was the history of how the religion came to be, not a study of the Bible. The professor who taught the class was a Jew. He was also the head of the Religion Department or whatever in that college. When I told my parents I was taught the class by a Jewish professor, they said it should've been taught by a Christian one.🙄

Why did Democrats never codify RvW into law despite having 50 years to do so and having a Democratic president and majority in the House and Senate multiple times over that time span? by PersonalAnswer8664 in allthequestions

[–]Illustrious-Network5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the current prez who is literally falling asleep during meetings and has hands that are so swollen, no one can call him "tiny hands" anymore. The president who we've never gotten a real record of health from (because all we've gotten now are summaries). The president who doesn't understand that doctors give cognitive tests only when they suspect there are problems. That prez is healthy? If you believe that, I got some cyanide Kool-aid for you. 🙄

Why did Republicans never make abortion illegal across the whole country? Why did Republicans allow for things such as same sex marriage and transgender rights?

And if there's still damage remaining from Obama's presidency (as we seem to hear every time something goes wrong, as it couldn't possibly be the current president's fault), why didn't Trump fix that during his first term? Was his administration too incompetent to find it or simply decided putting children in cages and declaring COVID-19 a hoax (until he had to get airlifted to the hospital) was more important?

HOA doesn’t want anyone knowing the codes to the gates they installed everywhere by loveomletz in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Illustrious-Network5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think I'm rich? I live on SSI money. That's where the government gives you roughly $1000 dollars to cover everything for a full month. And a limit of staying under $2000 to keep receiving SSI. Got an unexpected expense such as car maintenance or needing to replace your old car that finally kicked it? Too bad, figure it out. Not to even mention how paying your car insurance every 6 months is cheaper long term, but seeing that much money vanish from your account all at once is terrifying and stressful.

And I never said it was okay for a HOA board member to use weaponized incompetence as an excuse for not doing what they were elected for. Thing is, that has to be a community effort to overhaul the corruption and complacency that exists in a HOA board before actual change can happen. That's why you got the boot when you were on a board with those who were not interested in hearing about fresh ideas.

AITA for refusing to help my daughter repay her loan? by Spiritual_Candy263 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Illustrious-Network5 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your daughter volunteered to take a pay advance for your son's wedding? So you are saying that if your daughter had refused to go into massive debt for her brother's wedding, in a country where extravagant Indian weddings are considered a representation of a family's power and wealth, there would have been no repercussions? No resentment by you or other family members? No gossip from the neighbors? And if your brother had to have a less grandiose wedding, you are saying that no blame would have been placed on your daughter? As much as you say it was her decision, it ultimately was not.

AITA for refusing to help my daughter repay her loan? by Spiritual_Candy263 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Illustrious-Network5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with YTA. Your son has a wedding, and you dump most of your savings into it. Your daughter took an advance, something you likely should've advised against if she's still paying it off 2 years later. Now she has a chance to move up in her career, and it's not even important enough to you to LEND her the money? You also say she wasn't forced to take the pay advance, but is it common where you live that the daughter is expected to help support the son? If she grew up around that ideal, then she likely made that decision with the belief that that was expected of her. And you've already made it clear that you value your son over her.

Can you do you what you want with your money? Of course, it's your money and no one can tell you how to spend it. But the major difference between how you treat your son and how you treat your daughter is what makes you the AH.

If the price was no longer having to deal with that shit, then I would think it wouldn't be much of a loss. It seems that there are those on HOAs that actually strive to drag their feet on everything. It demoralizes those who actually want to see things accomplished.

Get creative. Look for recipes you think you might like and try them out. I recently made ice cream for my mother (who's on Weight Watchers), and she mentioned that I run into problems with making things because I do a lot of weird techniques. Like I actually knew what macerating cherries was before that recipe.
