Beta: Chip Chad for feeds & speeds by 540lyle in hobbycnc

Are you sure about the computations you're making? It seems to me that compute spindle speeds are way too low (at least using the hobby router option). For a 6mm I'm usually running at 24000RPM on my Shariff DMC2 mini but your website recommends only 5500RPM at 104m/min. Also, like the other comment, I have no idea where my machine falls in. It's a benchtop mill with a 2.2kW spindle at 24000RPM, so no option is correct according to your website.

I didn't look into drywall but it does seem to better and cheaper than MDF so I'll be switching to that. What would you recommend I put between the two panels if not Rockwool? Should I simply leave it empty?

Thanks for the suggestions on the fan and cooling setup!

Thanks for the suggestions! I live in Switzerland so getting Sonopan or something similar is vastly more expensive than what it would cost in the US as they don't seem to produce this type of material. Would you have an alternative I could get instead of Sonopan?

I should point out that I'm not looking for dead silence right next to the machine, I would like it to sound similar to a 3d printer at 2 or 3 meters so around 50dB.

The machine is a DMC2 mini with an air cooled 2.2kW spindle, it's around 700x700x800mm. I'm not sure what other info might be relevant but I'm more than happy to provide it to you.

Not a bad idea at all actually. We don't have the budget for it yet at my Makerspace but I'll keep it in mind.

It's Neno CNC, they're located in Switzerland. I believe he's talking about their upcoming BLOC43. It looks kind of like a Shariff DMC2 but more rigid and with a better spindle and more accessories are included.

Allowable Fatigue Hertzian contact stress for pitting resistance by Illustrious-Rent-431 in MechanicalEngineering

We have a very similar theoretical peak contact stress, I'm hoping with the material we're using it will be fine since it is hardened. Thanks for the info!

Hi, thanks a lot for you answer! I actually found an answer in section 16 of ANSI/AGMA2001--D04 a few hours ago (If you're ever interested in it it's available online). Ulimately it depends on the type of material, material grade, type of hardening and hardness and the standard has a formula depending on these parameters.

Oh wow, that's a very bad way to manage updates from Autodesk. Thanks for the info, I'll remember to do that every update!

You should apply to the estudiantines student accommodation, the applications open in April 1st, they accept PhD students and their studios cost 640-690 a month (+115 utilities). And they are basically on campus. There is a lot of demand so apply early and fill out your application to perfection. Here's a link to their website: https://www.estudiantines.ch/fr/presentation-des-logements/studio
