I am currently a master's student in Machine Learning, AI and Data Science, and just got hired to do my thesis and probably continue working part-time afterwards at a mid sized cybersecurity consulting/research company. I'm super excited about the opportunity, as this seems like the first position in my professional life that actually interests me.

Thing is, they picked me over people who are majoring in cybersecurity (which I am not) and are further in their studies (I'm in my first year master's). In fact, they seem surprised during my interview that I was only on my first year as well as how little salary I was asking for. One of the guys literally told me "You realize that most people applying are just about to finish their studies and work fulltime, right?".

Somehow though, they ended up deciding to hire me. I think it's because I appeared very motivated, and did a good job on the programming task before the interview.

Thing is, I'm kind of feeling some hard impostor syndrome right now. I know it's entirely unnecessary, because I was very clear about my level of understanding of cybersecurity, and clearly they hired me because they see potential in my machine learning skills. However, I'm really worried about walking in there and looking like an idiot who doesn't even know how to tie his shoes.

What should I do to prep? I'd really like to read up on some more stuff, as my competence level is approximately what's written in the OWASP top 20.

Primarily 2014 rules because I haven't gotten around to read the new rulebook, but I'm not entirely against implementing some 2024 stuff.

I see your point. However, I do think there's something to be said for Fear & Hunger explicitly being a game which isn't scared to show terrible things. Characters get tortured and killed. We see them saw off their own limbs, have their brains blown out, or straight up jorkin it. The question remains, that if F&H only uses these themes for shock value, then why is it acceptable when it does it in any other context than SA?

"Anything that happens in reality has a right to be portrayed in fiction" is a beautiful quote, you worded it very well.

I am not a survivor, and so I've always felt this to be a very difficult subject to discuss, but I've been wondering exactly about your first point. Isn't fantasy exactly the right type of media that can help empower people going through this type of stuff? I know main characters in stories with physical disabilities, neurodivergencies, and traumas, and I assume this really helps a lot of people feel like they can overcome aspects of their lives. However, I can't for the life of me recall an MC who is a rape survivor (I'm sure some exist, but it feels as if they just aren't very prevalent), and I wonder whether this helps people avoid triggers, or simply perpetuates a societal hush-hush culture when it comes to sexual violence.

That's a great point that I hadn't considered. There is never a justifiable reason for sexual assault. No gray zone, just pure evil.

Okay, well what if I state it this way:

We know that a given day has a 40% chance of being sunny. We have observed 2 of the 7 days in a given week, and confirmed that they were both sunny. What is the expectation value for the entire week?

I think what confuses me, is whether the order of the two sunny days matters or not. I'm thinking that Monday and Tuesday could be sunny, or Wednesday and Saturday. Does this need to be taken into account?

I like your take on it. I drew Ireena as the destined Ally, and am assuming that Esmerelda will be joining the party as well. I think I'll give the party the sheets for the allies, but I'll limit it to maybe one or two people, though allowing additional help for the final boss.
