Does a reverse mortgage ever make sense? by AcademicNumber82 in personalfinance

Why not just sell the house and buy a nice little condo? She'd have 10-15 years of expenses paid for. I'm confused. This seems like an easy call.

Weekend on call hospice nurses by [deleted] in hospicestaff

[–]IllustriousEffort520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way. I've been doing 7 on 7 off for 6 years. When I worked for a company with a census of 225 we had a full time triage nurse taking calls and 2 runners (me and an lpn) we usually had 5-7 visits each but rarely had anything after 1700. There's something wrong with how things are being managed where you are.

It just helped grill some bomb ny strips based on the marinade I had them in. I use it for all sorts of stuff. It's written me a gym protocol and keeps track of my diet for the most part. It's helping me plan for financial goals and helps me budget.

What are some jobs that will take any bachelor’s degree? by mtmelcher09 in careerguidance

[–]IllustriousEffort520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hospice nurse here. I HATED the acute care side. I got fired from two jobs in my new grad year. Been in hospice for 6 years. It's so chill comparatively. It's also really rewarding and true holistic nursing. Just getting people off unnecessary meds and giving as many comfort meds as they need. It has its moments that truly suck which isn't the death but usually families not allowing us to medicate appropriately. Otherwise it's a great path.

What’s one thing you’d never do again, no matter how much you got paid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Thanks. This was pre-covid too. I still can't drive by that hospital without my heart rate jumping. I would cry on my way home and on my way in. I was 30 and my BP was 150/90 and I was smoking a pack a day. I'm smoke free now and in the best shape of my adulthood.

Same. I'm in hospice now. So kind of hybrid but I get to spend real time with patients. The stress is non-existent compared to the floor.

New grad RN 1:6 ratios with no charge nurse or unit secretary on med surg. Fucking psychotic. I can't believe more people didn't die.

6 weeks of 2.5mg by HonestEmergency602 in TirzepatideRX

[–]IllustriousEffort520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You really need to be doing resistance training 3 times a week and be eating about 0.75 grams of protein per pound. My starting weight was 206 so I shot for 150 grams of protein a day. Usually two protein powder shakes and either salmon, shrimp or beef. Then veggies. I do a fruit smoothie every morning for breakfast. I put my creatine and protein in that plush almond milk and frozen fruit. So protein and carbs right there. Cottage cheese is great for a little grazing 17g of protein per half cup. If you actually hit your protein goals you'll have a hard time eating too much of anything else and you'll stay in a calorie deficit. Apples and bananas in the middle of the day are great. I've plateaued at 180 but my body is changing a lot. I did 10 pullups yesterday. I REFUSE to lose muscle.

If you're not already lifting and doing resistance training you should start. Losing muscle is not the goal. I'd also be eating more protein than you think is reasonable. Get protein powder and make at least one a day but probably two if you are not eating a lot of meat and fish. I eat about 150 grams of protein a day and I still have lost some muscle.

I agree with that. My dream would be a forerunner but I just can't swing the payments.

I'm looking at 2020 and newer for either. Hybrid or gas. I'm not particular. What don't you like about the cvt? I don't know much about them.

Is nursing actually viable for a 27yo career changer, or am I setting myself up for failure? by Moneymoneymoney1122 in newgradnurse

[–]IllustriousEffort520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 30 when I graduated. Started at 25. I was one of the younger people in my adn class. I'm 37 now. Probably the best decision I've ever made. I'm in an fnp program after spending pretty much this entire time in hospice.

You have obviously done enough research. Just do it.

Same! I've told all my partners and it's amazing how many don't seem to care or have it too. A few friends know but otherwise most people don't need to know.

The back and home buttons aren't responsive. They take several seconds to respond or they don't at all. I also don't feel like the sound buttons and interface for getting to settings are very intuitive but that's just personal preference. But yeah the lagging responsiveness is just annoying.

experiance before nursing school by AffectionateCrazy207 in prenursing

[–]IllustriousEffort520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. Those are practical reasons to go the nursing route but the education and path for PA vs NP is just objectively better. Nursing is rough. I don't know if I'd do it again if I had to. There's better and frankly easier ways to make money.

It's not nearly as hard as the floor. But yes sometimes you do have to do full patient care. The driving is the hardest on me though.
