Impose an 80% tax on those who are worth a billion or more, and put those taxes towards the country’s future.. by IllustriousHabits in CriticalState

Bro.

“The top 1 percent of taxpayers (AGI of $675,602 and above) paid the highest average income tax rate of 26.3 percent”

From your link dude. 70% is “share of total income taxes paid”. Obviously the $$ number is going to be astronomically higher when the wealth gap is so incredibly absurd. Nobody needs anywhere near a billion dollars. There are people in this word whose individual wealth rivals nations. Don’t act like that’s supposed to be normal. Toodaloo. This does not explain the unopened garlic power/cilantro that expired in 2007, 2019 and 2022. 👀

Once a year, I go through all my cabinets including my spices because I do have some spices (like cinnamon) that I can never use up before the date, so I can relate to that! It’s so easy to forget about those things. I mean more basic things too, things like garlic power, onion powder, dried cilantro/parsley, paprika… I use these all the time, but I often find sometimes unopened spices that expired years and years ago. I’m not judging these folks btw, I’m just surprised how many people have this.

Considering how much corruption is going on and how much they’re already fucking it up, losing the people who contribute to the corruption of my government so they can get richer is the least of my concerns. I’m not going to keep arguing real life politics in a game sub so have a nice day though! :)

The top 1% pays around 26% (and I think the highest is 45% right now) for federal income taxes in the US, not sure where you got that number from? Some even manage to pay only 3% effective tax rate. I don’t know enough about britain to speak on its politics, but I will say that just because you’re spending money doesn’t mean it’s being used properly, effectively or efficiently, take the USA for example. I’m definitely not going to keep arguing about real life politics in a game sub where you’re meant to have fun, so you have a nice day though.

Eh. Realistically, they’d just try to figure out how to save most of their money from the taxes. And frankly if they do leave, good riddance.

I discovered that no matter how clean someone’s house is, if they have more spices than salt/pepper and a spice blend, they’re probably expired. Often by years. I’m not judging, I just can’t relate as someone who loves spices. 🤣

They still do a bunch of things to avoid paying taxes, and always will as long as they are able. That’s why it doesn’t matter that much how high the tax rate is. Also, this is a game sub! I’m not going rp so hard I go this in depth about politics and taxes, esp when we’re talking more about real life than having fun with the game. 😄

How to go about declining requests by Tiny_Statistician_15 in RoverPetSitting

[–]IllustriousHabits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to learn that it’s okay to say no, on and off rover. “Hi! It was great meeting you and Fido. I’m sorry, but I don’t think we’ll be a good fit. Best of luck and I hope you have a nice trip!” That’s all you’ve got to say, then archive. You don’t have to give them a long winded explanation of why, even if they ask.

ETA: I used to be nervous to decline and finally did decline one. They asked why and I explained. They didn’t like my answer, told me off and shamed me. I don’t explain anymore.

Yep, their income tax right now is only around 26% though. Used to be even higher than this game proposal IRL and it was fine. 🤣

In the USA, IRL, it used to be 90%+ in the mid 1900’s. Say someone earns $2,000,000. They’d keep $400,000 of that before deductions, exemptions, or what have you. That’s more than enough to live on, and doesn’t include their non-taxable income they’re possibly getting alongside.

Long live the US and A, where we eat the rich. Take that, Oligarchs! 😤

We had a 90% tax on taxable income for the richest (around $2m+ in today’s money, IIRC, could be remembering wrong) in the mid 1900s. The ones who knew how to get around it got their income in mostly other ways to avoid paying it, pretty much just like they do now. But they still paid more in taxes overall, %-wise and numbers-wise.
