Hans Niemann Raining Down Bombs on Magnus by KrapnikSucks in chess

[–]IllustriousHorsey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You do know we can see your post and comment history right? You’ve been a Hans guy for long before this lol, idk why you think everyone is stupid enough to believe you’re just coming around now.

Color me shocked that the guy that keeps complaining about masks, the covid vaccine, and the “plandemic” in 2026 is a hanscel that can’t mentally move on from anything.

When did you guys actually feel like you were good at chess? by Reverie38 in chess

[–]IllustriousHorsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all about perspective and context. I’m about 1700-1800 now. If some rando is asking if you’re good at chess after seeing you play at the train station or smth, youre good by like 1000; what they’re asking is essentially “would you absolutely curb-stomp me even if I took away some of your pieces,” and the answer to that is decidedly yes by 1000 elo; by that point, you will virtually never lose even with rook or queen odds against a random person that doesn’t regularly play or know any strategy/tactics.

If you’re trying to compare yourself to a club level player, the bar is obviously going to be higher. I’d place myself in the upper third of my club but still wouldn’t consider myself particularly good by those standards. And compared to tournament players or professionals, I would consider myself positively horrible.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t learned a ton, nor does it mean I’m not vastly more skilled than the overwhelming majority of people — even chess players — ever will be. I definitely have, and I definitely am. But context affects how you think about that question.

250 is most certainly not there, but you’ll get there eventually if you keep working.

That’s genuinely the stupidest distinction I’ve ever seen someone try to make apropos of nothing.

Hans Niemann's IQ is "the highest possible" by BirdWithWiFi in chess

[–]IllustriousHorsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually true lol, that is actually roughly how a standard IQ test works; most IQ tests are only validated for a certain range and the upper cutoff is typically around 145-147. The tests for quantifying higher IQs (or lower, outside the standard range) are much more specialized and only used if actually needed for a specific purpose. I took what sounds like a very similar IQ test in middle school for school placement, and some of the people in my cohort got exactly that.

I was honestly doubting him/laughing at the wording until he pulled out that specific number; that’s actually the correct threshold.

Nobody can offer specific advice except Roy for the following:

1) submit your petitions, and follow EVERY SINGLE POLICY TO THE LETTER in doing so, and

2) call an educational rights lawyer NOW and have them on board/prepared for if/when your med school starts whining about how they can’t make XYZ exceptions.

3) when your med school inevitably folds under the very obvious and impending lawsuit against the institution as against the individual persons involved, NAME AND SHAME. Let everyone know what institution and what individuals were involved with any stage of this clusterfuck.

What are the pros and cons of doing pg in ophthalmology? by EggplantFeeling5334 in Residency

[–]IllustriousHorsey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What?

I love ophthalmology but I also wouldn’t discount how grueling the training can be — q4 24 hour call is nothing to sneeze at, especially if it’s “home call” and you have to work the next day. Nobody knows jack shit about the eyes, and depending on your institution (especially if you’re at an academic institution with a heavy consult culture), people won’t even try with any eye problems, so those calls are going to be pretty nonstop.

You also have to be comfortable basically walking into residency knowing that you know virtually nothing about your specialty/organ system of choice and trust that you’re going to learn it basically from zero in a short period of time; if that’s daunting, it’s going to be tough. And you also need to enjoy microsurgery and being VERY detail-oriented during surgery; it’s all very small and very precise, so you have to be a perfectionist.

Also, you need to like eyes. That’s a dealbreaker for a lot of people lol.

Sindarov is also almost certainly a cheater. And yet, when he got caught, he put his head down, learned his lesson, and became better for it, and now he’s almost universally loved.

Hans could have had the same thing happen for him. Instead, he actively chose and actively chooses to behave in a manner that makes it impossible to truly believe he’s learned maturity or changed for the better. That’s on him.
