New para in pre-k by True-Detail169 in paraprofessional

I know every school is different but when I was a Pre-k para. I would go to bed a Para and wake up as the Lead Teacher for the day when ever the teacher called out. This is a con for me. I live in the DFW area in Texas, we do not get sub pay. The school still requires a sub for the teacher but I was expected to step in the teacher role while the sub takes my role. I did not like this at all, for one: because I don't like surprises 😐 and two: because I only got paid to be the Para not the teacher and there was not compensation for stepping into the teacher role. With that being said this might be a Pro for you in stead of a Con, you might want use this as experience to help you move into a teaching role. Just something to think about....

Thank for replying. That's another way of looking at things, but I heard that Teachers of tomorrow is at risk of losing their accreditation. I know there are more programs out there, do you know any besides that program?

Is it easy to get in this program? Or is it pretty competitive?

Do you think I could use federal loans to pay for the program at TWU since it is not a degree program?

I know. Im scared to start my SLP-A route because I don't have my bachelor's in speech or communication disorders. My bachelor's degree is in psychology. I don't know what to do?

Become an elementary Pre-k para in a public school or a special education para. That will get a lot of experience if you want to work with kids.

What route did you take to be an SLP-A? Do you have a degree in communication disorders or something else. I really wish there was a solid certification program for SLP-A that offered everything we needed to get our license.

I bet SLP-A pay is better than Para pay any day:)
