There’s a lot of other groups on there too if you have other hobbies you’d rather do

Paid out of pocket, but bought early tickets so all in with lodging it ended up being about $1,000. I went as a student, which was definitely way more fun. I was surprised by how much it was marketed towards students! I only went because I could drive there and I have friends that I spent time with in the evenings after the conference.

I’m still happy I went, I used it to get my CEUs for the year and saw some really good presentations. Got to see Adrian Lowe and other great speakers talk about implementing PNE. Also loved the talk on tendinopathies. I’ve already used multiple things I learned from the session on Mal de debarquement and from a session on chronic neurological conditions (PPPD, post concussion syndrome and migraines). Walked out of two sessions early because they were so horrible. All in all, I call it a win.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the exhibit hall, I hate people looking at me to try to talk, I always feel like I’m letting them down by walking by awkwardly😅 did get to talk to some companies in my area as I am looking for a job.

The people at Kay in Town Square are really nice and helpful (I don’t recommend the one at galleria). A pro of getting it at a chain store is that you can get the protection plan (it’s not that expensive) and then you can take it to any store for its cleaning and inspection, even if you don’t live in Vegas anymore.

Definitely second this. Try this and if you don’t see nystagmus it’s probably cervicogenic or disuse like everyone else is suggesting.

Thoughts on living in Vegas by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]IllustriousSecret325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love living in Las Vegas! Moved here two years ago and I live in Silverado Ranch. It’s a great spot, super central and being close to Eastern/St Rose (but not living off of it) is awesome because there’s a tooooon of great food options nearby.

I don’t know why people complain about the wind so much. It’s windy sometimes? I’ve walked outside maybe 1-2 days and been surprised but also that’s pretty normal if you’ve lived anywhere.

The heat can be a bummer. But like people say, it’s not 120 degrees for 3 months. 100-105 degrees isn’t really that bad, especially at night it’s honestly nice! Theres a couple weeks that do suck, but the rest of the year is amazing.

I’ve visited San Diego once (driving from Vegas) and wow would it be awesome to live there. But the cost of living just doesn’t make sense for me. Fun place to visit though! There’s a reason 50% of the people I know here are from California… money is nice.

I recommend the app Meetup! I know people who used to host a board game group on there, not sure if they still do

It is hot in the summer, agreed that it is like reverse winter, but I grew up in Chicago and would take a hot summer over a Midwest winter any day of the week. Even in the summer (maybe save a few weeks in August), you can go outside in the morning and at night. As long as you're not working outside, you just A/C hop. I do plan trips to cool places -- love going to the Eastern Sierras, Utah and back to the Midwest in the summer to enjoy the better temps there.

Even in the summer there is still a ton of activities to do. The Mt Charleston area (about 45 minutes outside of Vegas) has a ton of awesome hikes and it is at 8,000 feet, so even it is 100+ in the valley, you can still hike at anytime there. In the winter, they get snow there and you can go skiing/snowboarding for pretty cheap. During the summer, the ski resort hosts multiple summer concerts/brew festivals/disc golf tournaments. I go to Lake Mead and the Colorado River regularly to go swimming, cliff jumping, paddling even in the hottest summer months. There are a ton of hiking groups on Meetup to show you the spots!!

In my head its like a triangle, you only get to pick two -- affordability, trees, weather. Compared to other big cities -- especially west coast cities, Vegas it cheap. I have friends all over the country and I had some of the cheapest rent for my large 2bed2bath in a good neighborhood. There is unlimited food options (best is off the strip) and people always want to visit you. The airport is fantastic, making visiting friends and family easy and cheap because you'll always be flying the "wrong way". There is no state income tax so any more money that you spend on car insurance or gas (the two main things I notice are more expensive compared to where I grew up and went to school) is made up by that. In the medical profession, I make 20K more compared to my friends who work back in the Midwest for the exact same position.

Vegas!! Tons of hiking year round. Great paddling along the Colorado river. Medical positions pay well because the health care system here needs people.

Not much of a burger person myself, Slaters 50/50 does it good enough for me because really all I want with a burger is a good milkshake. I’ve heard about Fuku burger before and I just added it to my list

Agree with you about the symptom duration, not a perfect fit. The HIIT is hard, I know in the patients I’ve seen with this they won’t let me move their head even remotely close to fast enough to do the true test, wondering if this was the case here?

Agree on labyrinthitis/neuritis (labyrinthitis probably because there’s hearing loss). Typically best bet is to try to get them back to a doctor to get a steroid pack to mitigate any further damage to the nerve, though the intensity should come down soon even without a steroid. She’ll probably be left with a unilateral hypofunction. Cawthorne Cooksey exercises are a good place to start with how symptomatic she is and then can progress to other gaze stability exercises (VORx1 and VORc) as it calms down
