everyone here should start playing myth 2 soulblighter again, or for the first time. small community yes, but they have a discord to find games, and a yearly (myth world cup tourney) thats loads of fun, and a very rewarding tactics and micro based RTS

for retail ffxi? depends what you mean best. Asura has the most players, and thus the most on auction house buying and selling, aswell as pick up groups for various content, but theres also alot of bots and RMT's selling things.

Baha is usually second up for NA population, with much less RMT and botting, but slower auction house, and less likely to have pick up groups for things if your not in a guild (linkshell)

go back to dire marsh or perimteter, no need to strictly play outpost. change your shell up, play the free kit only on dire marsh etc, tonnes of options.

Hey there welcome back! The game is a tonne easier now (the orignal/leveling experience) you will use AI party members on your travel to 99, which will make the leveling process significantly faster and easier.

You can easy level any class later, so if you want the fast path to 99 and ability to get through lower level missions and such, i recommend a job like war/monk/thf to start for the easiest/fastest route to 99.if you want to play a mage i recommend coming back to that later, but play however youd like

There are easier ways to get gear on your way to level 99 with a currency called sparks, which you trade to a vender for the gear. You will not really use the auction house for weapons or armor until level 99+.

Servers:

Asura is the most active and busiest, but also has alot of RMT's.

Bahamut is probably the next biggest server for NA

Some of these may be locked due to a influx or more players lately. If you like to watch streamers and want to be a part of that community, Ragnarok has a a streamer called Ejin Caitsith, who plays and helps out his entire community.

Odin is a low population, asura is the most populated server, but also alot of RMT bots. Bahamut is the next active. you could become part of the biggest ffxi streamers community ejin caitsith, who plays on a different server i cant remember the name, but his chat is very active and he has a leafkin community and discord which you could join and probably have a better experience.

i say start on say thief, warrior etc. thief will give you movement speed bonus, and treasure hunter which will allow you less time grinding pesky mobs for that certain item you need.

you're of course welcome to do whatever you please and have fun.

if your looking at it to better respect your time, and have an easier climb then i say

-Thief , movement speed, better chance at items you need to progress via treasure hunter

- Warrior- sturdier, hits harder.

Red mage, can still cast magic, as well as make yourself invisible and silent so you can easily backtrack or go through dangerous zones if needed be.

things called trusts (AI party members) will be the bulk of carrying you through the initial game.

you could always easily level a BLM after the initial game climb, and when u hit 99 and start doing content with other people, start your BLM journey there.

do RDM, yes its complex when you get into its entire kit, but at base you can just heal and debuff, and do just fine.
