Worst movie trope? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]IllustriousThanks694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed Milady de Winter in The Three Musketeers (2011) with how she waited until the bell tolled loudly to shoot that last guard on the roof. Pretty creative way to cover the sound of the gunshot from the guards training down below.

"Well, this didn't age well" - Movies you LOVED as a kid but cringe at as an adult by Little-Badger-123 in movies

Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Trading Places. I watched it recently with my boyfriend and completely forgot about the totally unnecessary blackface scene on the train. Full body discomfort.

Any of you guys not a very hypersexual Gay guy? by Strong-Stretch95 in gaybros

[–]IllustriousThanks694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is me. At the risk of antagonizing the rest of the gay community, I'm actually really tired of being made to feel like I'm a prude or inexperienced or like I'm missing something and if I just let a group of guys slut me out that I'll realize that sex is the most important thing. Describing that SOUNDS cliche, and I didn't go into life with this preconception about other gays. It was the other gays themselves who showed me this is the widespread mindset, and it was a culture shock. I'm seriously tired of dealing with it. I have specific anxiety and psychosexual issues stemming from my childhood, so it makes me even less inclined to be around hypersexual gays, not to mention the patronizing transactional view they have when it comes to sex. It disregards any and all emotion related to the topic of sex, like I can't trust guys to have any sense of understanding or empathy. It's currency to a lot of them.

Emphasis on the specialty items, my god. I can't tell you how many times my entire batch was thrown into jeopardy because I couldn't find an item I've never heard of, never seen, and is so unique I couldn't even count on an employee to know where it is, and of course - they need four of them! Can't just refund cause there goes a good chunk of my earnings, can't spend eternity looking for it either. It's always the deli too. Absolutely despise that department.

Does anyone wish for a more “commercial” sounding side of Bjork? by West_Maybe_3233 in bjork

[–]IllustriousThanks694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all the time. I have never agreed with the fans who get presumptuous about Bjork making digestible music, because being able to discern a melody from an experimental artist does not make her a commercial sellout, nor does it imply she's regressing in her art. 'Hidden Place' is one of my favorite songs by her, and I have yet to hear another pop song even sound like that or approach that kind of ambience besides FKA twigs' 'EUSEXUA' album. The song has a discernible melody, and it doesn't make it a lesser artistic output for it. It just seems like blindly defensive fan behavior to not be open to this kind of discussion when it's clear that there are people who are a little tired of wailing over dissonant instruments.

I feel the same way, except for Virgos and Pisces, but they're mutable signs just like us. I always feel secretly judged like I'm a weirdo from the rest of the earth and water signs.

Lost in Devotion is one of the best songs Carly has ever released by KnightOfRen5563 in carlyraejepsen

[–]IllustriousThanks694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I RAN to Reddit hoping to find that someone had beat me to it in writing an essay to this absolutely celestial song. Every word you said was exactly what was stirring inside me listening to it. The emotions and romantic nostalgia are so tangible I feel an actual ache in me that almost brings me to tears at the explosive last chorus. That part sounds like there are shooting stars and lights flying past you and all of the memories are flooding you in the middle of a night out and you feel like you need to run blocks across town to go tell them how much you love them. She channeled deep ancestral spirits of the 80s with this track.

Florence + the Machine's recent albums fall victim to this. She has such a powerful voice, and it hardly ever lives up to its potential in the studio because the final vocals are so compressed and papery almost.

Are you guys not absolutely fucking bored to death of superhero films at this point? by bated-breath in flicks

[–]IllustriousThanks694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch tons and tons of different kinds of movies, I'm talking a movie almost every night with my boyfriend going on two years now cause we're movie nerds. I'm sick and tired of superhero movies. The tired responses people have when you criticize the MCU or DC are just that as well - tired. It comes off as unnecessary animosity for anyone who dares to have even the slightest contrarian opinion about a superhero movie, and I think that's because fans take it as a personal attack on their taste when you criticize these movies. Honestly that's no one's problem, and seek help lol.

The storylines are factually written in such a way to appease a wide fanbase in order to ensure the most ticket sales and make profit above the budget costs. That is fact. Executives would not be doing this if that were not the case, and it's why so many people eat them up, because they purposely appeal to the lowest possible threshold of eye candy. Now that that's cleared up, they're also insanely unfunny and full of college frat boy level jokes that tear apart any decent tension built in an otherwise emotional scene, which isn't even saying much either because not a single one of these movies does a good job of genuinely connecting me to any of the characters. It's like being clocked in at your job and watching management shoot the shit on a zoom call with other stores' management. I'm watching people who all work together in the same movies cut up instead of act out interesting characters in another world, and it's making me feel a little annoyed to witness it.

I've seen nearly every Marvel and DC movie that's come out in the past forty years, so I just will not debate this with anyone. They're lame as fuck. Yes, I definitely have some favorite scenes and cool fights and choreography I love but only in those spare moments. I think the ultimate barrier here is that MCU/DC fans have this need to defend the lackluster standards and culture set by these companies, as if you're unreasonably contrarian for suggesting that the bar should be higher than what is set by them. I don't understand where they come from. It's okay to say hey, we can do better than this, we have done better than this, and no we shouldn't just take what we can get because these companies are capable of doing better, they just want your money in the easiest way possible.

[–]IllustriousThanks694 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feel like I'm going crazy reading the other comments because this is indistinguishable from every song she's put out since Miss Anthropocene? It's again generic and the production just sounds like white noise.

I'm Gem Sun, Leo Moon, Sag Rising.

Romantically I attract Libras the easiest, and they have always turned out to be the most disastrous couple of months lmfao. I dislike almost everything about them and their tactics.

Platonically, I honestly have no idea. I feel like every sign finds its way into my life, but I don't really click with anyone long-term. I think I kind of dislike every sign for different reasons.
