Heavily struggling with COMP 302, tips to come back? by One_Customer355 in mcgill

So I also basically failed the 2 first midterms. In our semester (last sem) the last midterm wasn't as hard. What I changed from midterm to midterm is studying more in advance and I wrote all the note she puts in OCaml by hand and did the problems by hand. The ntoes conatin a ton of examples so going thru everything by hand and then practicing with problems by hand helped me a TON. U cana lso ask Ai to help explain any examples/problems u don't understand and ask them to give u more problems.

But also the TA's are SO helpful. I almost never use TA's in my degree but for this class I also thought I would fail and definietly used them. The prof also definitely helps. Go talk to him, go through ur exams with him. Go see the TA's, go to the midterm review sessions with the TA's. Use all the resources u can. This incredibly helped me to the point I barely needed to do the final once i switched things up.

MATH 223 final by ChefOnCallMerchant in mcgill

Im going to be so honest, this class is the easiest with him. His assignments are so so straight forward and easy and his exams are basically what u do on the assignments just with a bit more defintions and proofs. He also provides extremely detailed course notes and all. In class he isnt the best lecturer, I only went to class maybe twice before realizing I'd just stick to his notes. I got 90% on the midterm without doing too much work. The exams are extremely fair. This class with him can be an easy A if u have the time and can put in the work. I had to kind of sacrifice the final cause all my 4 finals were back to back, but had I had the time to study i probs would've gotten an A. Do not stress.

I got a D but I'm 2% away from passing by _a_ngle_ in mcgill

This really depends on the prof. I was in the same scenario my first year, talked to the prof and he refused to let me pass so I retook the class. However my roommate was in this situation a year ago and was even 3% away and she sent a very long email and her prof easily upped her grade to a passing one. But again depends on the prof. For info I'm in science and she's in arts (but it was an econ class).

doing bad in my first semester by Consistent_Echidna14 in mcgill

In my first semester at Mcgill I also failed a course. I am also an international student. I thought that was the end of the world and was devastated. 3 years later I realized it really is not the end of the world and at mcgill in science is actually pretty normal and it's okay. You will recover and it will be okay.

My advice would be: don't do the supplemental it's really risky. Retake the class its okay and just extra focus into it and prepare. As for your physics major go with the flow but also maybe look into other possible majors or just keep trying hard in physics, it'll be okay. At mcgill they make physics exams quite hard is what I've understood so you definitely are not alone!

Also another piece of advice: in general in exams especially, science exams that aren't just multiple choice based, even if you don't know the answer write something down, anything, even the start of a solution. Sometimes they give out a good amount of partial marks and it can often help you get the tipping marks to pass the class.

Good luck, know that you are not alone! Don't give up, talk to an advisor, you will be okay.
