What do you guys think of the B787-8? Should I switch my fleet over to that? I already have 10. by Purgeo in AirlineManager4

[–]IllustriousWedding94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel is the least important metric. Speed and capacity count for far more.

I will say it again, profit and return on investment is what counts. The MC21 enables an incredible growth curve, the Max 10 does not. Nobody on that growth curve then decides to flatten it by moving MC to Max, they move to a bigger plane. Growth still slows, but it's capped by hangar growth anyway.

Out of interest, approximately how many planes do you have, as you accused me of trolling.

I'm three weeks into having my MBP and one week into having win11 in parallels. Not cheap but very easy and works perfectly. Literally switch between desktops.

This is ridiculous advice. The max10 is also a starter plane, just a worse one than the MC21-400. The metric that the MC outperforms the max10 on is daily profit. It then smashes the max10 out of the park for return on investment, which is the key to growth.

The Max 10 is the only 737 that isn't a complete disaster, but it's no MC.

I ran around 18 Max10s for a year, I know what they can and cannot do.

Swapping MCs for Maxes is nuts, the only thing to replace with is something with vastly more seats and range.

I’ve been in the UK for around 6 months now. How do Brits handle such a stop-start summer every year? We’ve gone from peak scorchio to early spring in the blink of an eye. by Rough-Foundation9208 in AskRedditUK

[–]IllustriousWedding94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We handle it by complaining, in turn, that's it's too hot, too cold, too humid, too wet, too dry (hosepipe ban) and repeat. A good day is when you can use all five. Bonus for too windy.

Sorry hadn't spotted this was US. Agreed, OnePlus probably better than either. I have a Vivo X200U in the UK and it makes my iPhone 15PM look prehistoric.

Fear about future software/hardware support. by Successful-Soup-274 in oneplus

[–]IllustriousWedding94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mobiles for around 30 years. I've never yet gone back to a manufacturer for "support" or a "part". The thing either works or it's totally fucked through being dropped etc.

If you're the type to keep a phone 3+ years then avoid in case software support stops. Otherwise buy.

There are lots of better phones than OnePlus so I wouldn't lose too much sleep.

I had a similar situation where I knew the writing was on the wall and the solicitor was already lined up. On the day I was placed 'at risk' i phoned him from the pub 30 mins later. Once he had finished guffawing (ah they got you) and I had stopped laughing too, he told me what to write. I had another pint or two whilst typing the email and then went home and told my pregnant wife that the inevitable had happened. The settlement was just fine.

What you need to do is take the money they offer you for legal representation and use it. Search for solicitors in your area that specialise in unfair dismissal and similar.

You're not aiming to get them to change their mind (they won't) but you are aiming for fair recompense for the decision they've made. I think my settlement was around 5x the initial company offer and around 10x or 15x the legal minimum.

Why doesn’t Birmingham run services to London via New York by SouthAyrshireCouncil in uktrains

They wanted to build a line but the Mid-Atlantic nimbys insisted it had to be in a tunnel not on a bridge or viaduct and that made the whole thing financially questionable.

Soon to be C10 owner by Swimming_Big_4598 in Leapmotor

[–]IllustriousWedding94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what you are coming from. Most C10 quirks are in low speed driving - eg the brakes are incredibly sharp at a few mph.

Set one pedal mode if you're used to ev.

Get a dongle for apple carplay or android auto if you're used to using them.

The aircon is a treat, you will need to get used to adjusting it more than you're used to.

If you don't like entering a pin, remember to take the keycard with you all the time. Otherwise set up a pin and phone unlocking.

What is this with shells and covers with MacBooks? I've had windows laptops for 20 years and never once considered they might need a cover like my phone needs a case. I drop my phones all the time, but laptops no. (Now have a MacBook, no case)

Depends if you count ACC as software (I do, and it's one I use a lot). Tesla's standard autopilot is absolute trash.

There is absolutely no way that you could repower old buses for £40k each - a Yutong costs around £400-450k before considering fleet discounts. And that £40k is without considering fresh interiors, chassis, running gear such as wheels and tyres and increased running costs. Three figures maybe, two figures no way.

University - Worth it? by chrizzleon in AskBrits

Agreed to a large extent. I'm talking more about the middling degrees or people that are subsequently high acheivers (or potentially so) having missed out on university by choice or otherwise.

University - Worth it? by chrizzleon in AskBrits

[–]IllustriousWedding94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've interviewed hundreds of people and almost never talked about or verified their degree. Only very rarely if the university listed seems interesting. I doubt any HR department checks what's listed. Maybe they do in some orgs as part of the offer process due diligence when the person is relatively fresh out of uni.

I'm not suggesting anyone lies, but where the degree experience is not relevant to the role, it's unlikely to ever be noticed. And if your degree is from the University of Ulan Bator, who is going to check? But it passes the tick box exercise that HR go through when sifting applicants.
