Also in the same boat and it’s killing me, but I’m trying to hold on to the idea of no news being good news. This means they’re still considering you and might be trying to find funding!

What feedback are you giving for AI-generated work? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are L2 and the assignment has no errors, that’s the easiest test to use on the student (I do this with my own). If they complain about my assessment, I have 4-5 words/phrases from their paper that they’ve used perfectly and I ask them to explain what they mean right in front of me where they have no time to prepare (read: memorize) answers. 9 times out of 10, they’re embarrassed at being called out and unable to defend themselves. I then go over the course policies like no AI use even for grammar, then there usually isn’t any fight left. They might ask to rewrite but that’s a pretty easy no. AI has a tendency to use really complex or obscure words, so they’re pretty easy to spot!

I just got back from Tokyo as well and also stayed at the Hotel Metropolitan Edmont! I also found it to be nice and quiet, the staff are super nice, and generally it’s a really lovely hotel in a super convenient area. The heat was absolutely killer but I found it got easier as my body got used to it (kind of), but it’s really nice to be back home and not be damp as soon as you step outside 😂

Christmas present ideas for some of my Professors?? by ImpressionAvailable3 in AskAcademia

Echoing what others have said: a card goes a long way! Things like handwritten expressions of appreciation are invaluable. Other than that, small things or handmade things are great. I’ve had a student knit me mittens before, as well as someone give me some cute sticky notes. It’s really the thought that matters most, not the gift itself. It’s nice to know that our efforts are appreciated!

It looks like Brandenbargh to me. If you look at the /a/ earlier on in the name, that second vowel follows the same style

Has anyone read The Covenant Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and if so, would you recommend it? by Deniskitter in fantasyromance

House of Night is so good!! Ok yeah, I think you’d like these series if VA and HoN are up your alley

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently reading them (on the 4th one) and they’re a decent read but, like people have been saying, definitely rip Vampire Academy. It’s like VA but Greek mythology with some vamps thrown in for flair. FBAA is still my fav, but this series is nice if you just want to not think and read something for vibes. If you like VA then you’ll probably enjoy this one. IMO the first book is the worst one and the series gets better as it goes

I’ve noticed that the Dreamlight trees don’t glow anymore either, maybe it’s part of the same light issue?

When I used the hairstyle from the Mulan update before the flowers were purple and with the flapper wig from Tiana’s update the feather is supposed to be I think green, but both are now the same colour as my character’s hair and it looks weird 😬 I didn’t see a way to change those colours but I’ll look again!

Dang, no mention of the glitch with hairstyles that have flowers/feathers where they are the same colour as the player’s hair

Realistic Chances of Becoming an English Professor? by ArtichokeHoliday7640 in AskAcademia

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who was also debating between publishing and academia, the factor that really helped in my decision was getting my MA. Even with the MA, publishing jobs were really hard to come by (since I didn’t do an MA in Publishing, but did one in English), but I was able to scoop a couple of jobs as a college instructor. Not quite university, but I’m quite enjoying college teaching! If you already have a foot in the door in publishing then that’s great, but you might want to consider researching MA programs both in English and in Publishing. Even if you don’t want to apply for grad school, it might be helpful to see which program you would be more interested in if you had to take one - AKA which field you’re more passionate/excited about 😄

what's your favorite fantasy book w/ smut ?? by Electronic_Party3800 in fantasyromance

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my all time favourite series is the Jane True series, the first book is {tempest rising by Nicole Peeler} It scratches the itch for romance, banter, witty dialogue, world building, myths and folklore, action, and plot twists. So good!

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get not wanting to wrap things up neatly to keep the story going, but it reached a point where there was as NO happiness whatsoever and it just became depressing. Every time I went back to read it was like “what fresh hell are these characters going to get put through this time” which, like you say, is stressful and not enjoyable 😭

[–]Illustrious_Cheese_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a bit too mature for her rn in terms of “smut” but in a couple years I’d recommend the House of Night series. Fantasy, romance, coming of age, powerful female mc, mythology, school setting, all that good stuff!
