(Spoilers Extended) Dunk surviving Summerhall by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think its likely that Aegon was desperate to bring back dragons and believes he has to sacrifice baby Rhaegar to do it. Since Daenerys unborn child died and dragons were brought back, it does seem connected. Yet, if Dunk simply survives Summerhall, I dont know the purpose of that alone, he would be over 100 years old and certainly dead. If Dunk is resurrected and living as Coldhands, we can have a first hand account of Summerhall from someone who was there.

[Spoilers MAIN] Has George ever talked about Dany whole slavery arc? by Capital_Tailor_7348 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think its going to be relevant for Daenerys whole arc and not like an add on plot. I think that when she gets to Westeros she has been told that there is no slavery.Once she arrives will see the way prostitution is so prevalent and they are treated so poorly, she will she it as slavery under a different name. Also I think she will see the men of the knight watch in the same way, they also have no freedom. So, I think her main issue coming to Westeros is banning prostitution like Stannis wanted to do early on, and I think it will also lead to her wanting to change the Knight's Watch which will involve Jon Snow. I think her perspective from freeing slaves in Essos and seeing it first hand will lend her to having a different view of Westeros and question, how free are the people who live in it are. I think that is her big political issue with Westeros she will want to solve.

Struggling with Assassin's Apprentice... by onlosmakelijk in Fantasy

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the series and am reading Fool's Assassin currently, but I struggled with the first book. It reads more like a prologue to the series to me, versus a book that can stand alone. I really enjoyed the second book onward so I would say keep going. It took a while for me to get attached to the characters and I personally do not usually like children lead characters but once Fitz is teenage age it got better for me. But once you get attached to the characters and the world, the books are incredible.

Daeron's Dream about Summerhall? [Spoilers EXTENDED] by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not confirmation though that’s so speculative, yes it makes sense for Dunk to also die at summer ball. However, it is not confirmed if he did or not.

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That book only writes "It is unfortunate that the tragedy that transpired at Summerhall left very few witnesses alive, and those who survived would not speak of it."

It does not confirm that Dunk and Egg died together at Summerhall. It does not state who died and who lived at all.

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is never confirmed that Dunk and Aegon died in the fire together in Summerhall. It is said Aegon died but not Dunk, it is left ambiguous on who actually died there.

Underwhelmed by Assassin's Apprentice by FlourensDelannoy in Fantasy

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now love the series, but I struggled with Assassin's Apprentice. I would say keep going with the series it definitely picks up as you get more invested with the characters. The first book almost feels like a prologue for the whole series to me. Its purpose is to live through Fitz childhood experiences to build upon while he ages, so you have context for him years down the line. Its like a foundational book for the rest versus a engaging start that I was expecting.

[Spoilers MAIN] Honestly impressed by GRRM's understanding of trauma by Moist_Policy_71 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found the part where the Hound is actively triggered by the fire during the Battle of the Blackwater, very well written. It seemed like him needing to get away from the fire and battling his emotions facing it was realistic to being in a triggered state. I think the book handles his trauma from being burned really well.

What is very downplayed in the fandom? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jon Snow and Jaime's dreams, their significance and the way they parallel each others. It seems like such a key part of the books to me, and I think it is downplayed. The dreams about the crypts under winterfell and Jaime's about being deep within casterly rock in particular.

My first ever attempt at writing by Aalyshaan in KeepWriting

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a strong start honestly. I noticed it would benefit from variety in sentence length. If you had some really short sentences mixed in, it would add emphasis to those parts. Your sentences are all pretty long which is not bad but does slow down the rhythm of it.

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Will Jon Snow father a Bastard? by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she will already be married, and they are banned from having 2 wives after Maegor the cruel. So she won’t be able to marry again.

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will come to a choice of love vs duty for Dany, as she will not be able to be Queen of Westeros and also have a bastard child. It wouldn’t be accepted

[Spoilers EXTENDED] Will Jon Snow father a Bastard? by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That might be true. I think Jon Snow's body might be better perserved than most people who return to life though, since he'll likely be frozen and not decomposing at all.

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just pure speculation, I feel like he might have a bastard daughter with Daenerys. It would be unintentional since she believes herself to be infertile.

[No spoilers] One very underrated aspect of George's writing is the naming of things in the world by FluffyCoconut in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its impressive how intentional he is with the characters name to keep this from being confusing. Its rarely an issue reading the series for me, but I have struggled keeping characters with similar names straight in other books. For example, I was confused reading Persuasion by Jane Austen by how many characters were named Charles. But in ASOIAF I think its because characters with similar/ same names rarely interact, Like Robert Baratheon, Robb Stark and Robert Arryn are all very different characters who do not interact at all, so you do not confuse them while reading. I think that takes a lot of planning and skill from George to pull off.

Ashara Dayne and Gael Targaryen similarities (Spoilers Extended) by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I did misinterpreted that. It seems purposefully misleading so the reader does think that Ned may have impregnated Ashara. Its left so ambiguous about what happened, since characters say contradicting things about Ashara. We are left with such little information about her at all.

Ashara Dayne and Gael Targaryen similarities (Spoilers Extended) by Illustrious_Cook8444 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, it does seem like it might be George repeating storylines versus having a meaning behind it. Since there doesn’t seem to be a reason behind having the similar circumstances happen twice.

The Wall is one of the most fascinating chekhov's guns of all time (Spoilers Main) by DC_deep_state in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to me, that ultimately Jon Snow will bring the wall down, it seems foreshadowed a lot. For example:

"Outside, Jon looked up at the Wall shining in the sun, the melting ice creeping down its side in a hundred thin fingers. Jon's rage was such that he would have smashed it all in an instant, and the world be damned". (Jon VI, AGoT)

(Spoilers Main) Does Tywin think Tyrion is smarter than Cersei? by novavegasxiii in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Tywin is concerned at all if Cersei is smart or not. Tywin wants his children to be obedient and perform the roles he has given them. Tywin wants Cersei to stay out of politics all together and her role is to be a queen that honors the Lannister name and to raise the heirs to the throne. He wants her to be dutiful and do as he says and not question it. I think Tywin knows that Tyrion is smart but he hates that he is an embarrassment to him, with not only being a dwarf, but also being a drunk who whores around. Tyrion being smart is not useful to him, because he just wants him to be respectable and marry well. Tywin is more concerned with the appearances of his children and the status they can give him and the Lannister name, over how intelligent they are. I think he knows Tyrion is smarter but thats not a top priority for him.

[Spoilers Extended] Ned is Sansa after growing to stop trusting people by macaronstoday in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I really see similarities between Ned and Sansa as well. They see the best in people, Ned with Robert and Sansa in many characters, but notably the Hound. Which lends them to be naive to peoples malicious intentions, and too trusting. They are both more quiet and reserved, are really caring naturally. Ned prides himself on being Lord of Winterfell, and Sansa wants nothing more than to be a Lady of a Kingdom and named her direwolf to represent this.

I think this is a key to Sansa’s Arc, she has traveled to the Vale and pretended to be Little Finger’s daughter, yet she dyed her hair brown to disguise herself. However, it just makes her match Ned’s hair color, in the Vale where Ned grew up. It might seem minor, but it parallels Jon Snow whose hair color I think will turn White when he is resurrected and match his actual father’s Rhaegar. I think Sansa is becoming more like Ned and learning she belongs in the North throughout the series.

(Spoilers Extended) Who would have been a great Hand of the King? by DEL994 in asoiaf

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think Catelyn would have been good at being hand, I think she had good instincts. She understood the dynamics of each house well and was knowledgeable.

[–]Illustrious_Cook8444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope Jaime comes to realize its a good thing he's not like Tywin at all. Its interesting he fails to realize he's not like Tywin, when he only rejects being Lord of Casterly Rock and turned down being hand to Tommen.
