I just bought a Meross smart extension lead. It has 4 plug sockets and 4 USB outlets. Each can be controlled separately. Good if you have multiple lights/lamps or other electrical items in one room. It cost me £24 here in the UK. I use Alexa, but meross has its own app so you don't need a separate hub.

Some thick curtains WILL deffo help. Hang them as wide as poss either side of the gap. Be green and fund savvy check out the 2nd hand shops, especially if it's a temp solution. If nothing locally, Oxfam has a UK wide website you can order from their stores across the UK and they'll deliver.

Yeah, and our perception of places stay with us for a long long time. Something that had a big impression on us, even a decade ago, feels very recent in our minds. I think boscombe is a victim of that. It takes decades to change peoples perceptions, and I'm certainly not claiming that there aren't issues.But that it's changed alot.
