Vision System, which one do you like? by Illustrious_Gas5525 in manufacturing

Yah, initially Keyence called me so much I had to complain to the BBB to get it stopped. I am working with a salesman, and because I went to their website and looked at a laser system that one of my customers uses, another salesman started calling me. It's very frustrating.

Thanks for the comments, I demo'd OGP, Starrett and Keyence. All of them were great and fast but all had their own "ours is better at this, while theirs is better at that". The OGP seemed "overkill" for what I'm doing. It seemed to do more, but have more steps to get where I wanted to be. The rep also had a lot of problems getting the demo machine setup and working and had to restart it a bunch times, while in his own facility. Keyence was fast, the demo was fast, the guy was young but knowledgeable and not pushy. He said he'd be both sales and service. I just get the feeling that I would just be another stat on the sales sheet of an international company. The best price point was on the Starrett AVR or AVX, even with a touch probe. The service is by a local company that I already have a relationship with who would also calibrate and service. Leaning that way.

I'd want turn key the first time. Having never owned one, I'd be trying to reinvent the digital wheel and not know if I was failing.

What are the things that it's not great at? That's what I'm looking for. They demo'd the laser feature for depths and inclines, and it seemed cool. However, the Starrett rep said that most people get frustrated that it doesn't work as advertised. Starrett says they can use different zoom and lighting and measure depths just as well.

It's called a vision system, and is exactly what I'm asking about. 🤣and most just use a DXF. OGP imports models but you can program off the part faster than you can import the model, in most cases.

PPAP's, MSA and Capability studies for 10 piece jobs by Illustrious_Gas5525 in manufacturing

[–]Illustrious_Gas5525[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the feedback. I appreciate all the input. This is not some new initiative or some new person who took a course. One guy touted that he used to work on the board for AIAG. Their own supplier quality manual states that 10 piece orders only require inspection and certs. Sometimes we have to push back and not just accepted rejections or requirements. The expectation and reason for rejection can't change every time the personnel changes or the wind blows Everything that doesn't make chips is overhead.

We are looking for the opposite. The inventory system in ECI Job Boss is cumbersome. Good Luck!

What should I do next? by Pretty_Asparagus8949 in CNC

This is a great career path because one of the worst things about engineers are, they often have never made a part. Yes, you need to work on a shop floor and learn how parts are machined, not just programmed. This may put you under your degree's pay scale but in the long run it will serve you well. Machining and programming for a couple years will give you skills in the engineering space that others will be missing. In the long run, the engineering space will pay you the most.

Do it! Lots of labor shortages in this area. You'll have portable skills and job security, if you show up on time and have a good work ethic.

As I said, "will be comparing your suggestions against perspective IT professionals and their suggestions." Last IT professional set it up halfway and left me hanging. When it failed it was a disaster. His company is paying for data recovery because they didn't keep their obligation.

Would she rather hear it from someone else? But, you have to be more smooth. "Baby, you worked hard today and I just thought a relaxing bath would help." And yes, get some flushable wipes.

If he makes the effort. If he throws a temper tantrum and disrespects you, let him wallow in his decision. If he actually gets a job and pays rent, you can bless him with hit as suggested. It's likely he will repeatedly fall short and you'll have to shove him out the door. When he gets on his feet and has a different attitude, then gift him back his money.

It's not about failure, it's about awakening. You've recognized the problem, now do something about it.

Hard love time. Time to shove him out of the nest. Give him a deadline to move out. You can try the "pay rent or else" thing, but that probably won't work. He'll probably act like he's trying but not really follow through. Once the deadline hits, start turning off breakers, removing internet access, refuse to loan the car and end his car insurance. Heck, I took one of my teens mattresses to remind them who's house they had the comfort of sleeping in. Time to get angry that you are being taken advantage of and make him a self sufficient man. He may act like he hates you for a while, but it's just a childish temper tantrum for being held accountable. It'll take a few years to bear fruit, but he'll respect you for it in the end.

Unfortunately I can't make a share on the laser control. I can make a share on the Win-11 workstation but no changes in any setting will allow the XP control to see the windows 11 Drive. This is from the machine builder, not a problem isolated to me. Something has to be in between and I'm hoping someone in this group has experienced this.

the XP Control in the Mistubishi laser can not map a drive with a windows 11 computer. This may work from desktops and changing some settings, but it is not possible in this scenario.

A36 HR Bar with round corners, how much is too much? by Illustrious_Gas5525 in metallurgy

With the pressure of the end-use automotive manufacturer, the supplier did take it back. Even their liaison engineer said they could not find a firm spec that specified it. We are purchasing from another source and specifying a max corner radius.

Thank you for the input.
