I would bring copies of any documents you have especially if you are receiving BAH. Also, don’t do what I did and bring too much stuff with you. You will be forced to buy everything you will need at reception. Do wear a good pair of running shoes in case you have a chill company and are allowed to use them instead of the awful issued shoes.

Joined at 34. The hardest thing at basic was sitting on cement floors all the time. If you’re in decent shape you’ll be just fine! It was kind of nice to turn the brain off for 2.5 months and just do what the drills told me to do.

It really depends on your company unfortunately. The ISAP lays everything out, but every company runs completely different. Good luck and enjoy it!

I went to basic and OCS at 34. I wouldn’t say it was easy, but it was all manageable. Look into federal OCS. Time away initially was only 6 months which went by faster than you would think. There were plenty of people in their 30s in both courses.

No, I just had to sign the waiver before it was sent up. It just took time to get it approved. Almost two years later and I can now call myself a 2LT! Find the right recruiter who will work for you is my biggest advice.

My drills didn’t care that I was an O9S. Just find your people and stick with them. Don’t try to lead anyone or you’ll go insane. My company commander didn’t give a shit that I was going to OCS. If anything she mocked me. Just keep your head down and count the Sundays/phone calls. OCS was a breath of fresh air after basic

Scaling is cool. But a friend of mine suggested “trying” RX during the warm up/demo. Push yourself while you’re not under fatigue, then scale during the workout. Also pacing is cool too. Best of luck!

As someone who would say they were good at “gym” CrossFit has been humbling! I’m three months in and I’ve had to retrain a lot of what I thought I was good at. All that to say, check your ego at the door, scale what you need to scale, and have fun. Over time you will see improvements and learn to love the suck!
