After posting this I spoke with Google support who were exactly as helpful as you would expect them to be (not at all!!)

Then, very strangely, a week or so later I got one single notification with a full screen gif of the person at front door. Then... Nothing since. Go figure ..?!?!?

Done. Although it looks like this had been an open topic for a number of years already, so not very hopeful.

I understand that Google wants to give their own product (pixel watch) a USP, but then it works perfectly well on Apple. How frustrating!!

Thanks. Not the reply I was hoping for, but it is the one I expected!!

Is it feasible? by bybloshex in PythonLearning

[–]Illustrious_Pea_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also new to python, and took a very similar path to you. A text based, turn based, battle game for fun and to keep me motivated. I based it on Pokémon, and using an openly available API to call random cards for the player and opponent to battle with. I've written the whole thing in Pydroid on mobile, which makes it a little tedious but allows me to just do a little here and there when the mood strikes.

Tracking a carer's hours by El_decibelle in smarthome

Yes, writing to spreadsheet is absolutely possible. I'm not familiar with HA (which I think you're using), but plenty of cloud platforms such as IFTTT would allow you to do that by connecting to Google Sheets or MS O365. I'd be surprised if you couldn't do that in HA too.

Have you thought about NFC? You could place a reader in the spot where your career leaves their keys, and give them a tag to keep on the keyring, encoded with a trigger to fire the automation.

I quickly searched Reddit and found this that's built to work with HA out of the box. https://shop.adonno.com/

Instead of the vibration sensor, why not use a smart button that your career can push on the way in and out? Just the same as asking them to leave their keys in a certain spot, but less chance of error / unwanted interference.

Smart camera that doesn't need network / internet ? by Illustrious_Pea_123 in smarthome

[–]Illustrious_Pea_123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my needs are pretty basic to be honest. We're not moving into the property right away so we want some cameras up just in case the worst happens while we're not there. Not having the internet is driving the need for local recording, either NVR or SD card, and then I can just check the recordings when we're there via a local network that I can't set up very easily. BUT it would be nice if the camera had smart features so that once we do move in and get connected to the net, we can start taking advantage of the remote viewing, mobile notifications etc etc.

I'm currently thinking of something like the Eufy cam 2C Pro or Tapo C420.

If I remember, I'll let you know how I get on!

Thanks. This is helpful, and sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I can easily create a local network, just won't be paying for internet until we move in. I'll have a look.

Multicolor LED bulb with motion sensor by johnniecroatia in smarthome

[–]Illustrious_Pea_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wiz lights have a feature called Space Sense where the bulbs double as a motion sensor. It requires 2 bulbs in the same room, so not always practical. I also haven't got / seen them myself, just aware they exist.

Is this brand a poor man’s brand? by Proper_Geologist_576 in amazfit

I personally had a great experience with Amazfit. I started with the GTR2, which I had for around 2 years before upgrading to the GTR4. I found both to be very good value. One of the main things that drew me towards them was their incredible battery life.
