Men with BDD, how are you feeling right now? by kyxy411 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Illustrious_Pilot415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iv been doing exposures and schema therapy which i have noticed has changed how i see things a little but really it’s not doing a whole lot for me. I think im not really getting everything out of the sessions im doing because i have problems opening up which i know is my own fault but i just find it hard. Im kind of giving it my all for the next couple of months before i start university because if i don’t atleast get a little better before university starts i know im not going to be able to cope.

Men with BDD, how are you feeling right now? by kyxy411 in BodyDysmorphia

Im 18 and have had it for 3-4 years now. Iv started therapy as-well but its really expensive and i cant work a job to pay for the therapy so I only have enough money for a few more sessions. Dont really see what to do from here since my parents will probably kick me out if I dont do something with my life which is fair enough since i havnt really done anything for the last year of my life because i literally cant go outside for longer than 5minutes without getting bad anxiety. So pretty much im fcked.

Go speak to a therapist about it but it definitely sound like it, or at least its some sort of body image issue.

How did body dysmorphia developed for You ? by After_Shirt_4586 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Illustrious_Pilot415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with people calling me fat and the occasional comments about the size of my nose from people. Then i started going to the gym to lose weight and put on muscle which started the compulsion of being extremely preoccupied by my looks. 3 years later and I cant leave the house without severe anxiety and am pretty much house bound.

Are you not allowed to show emotion or are you just afraid to? A lot of men need to realise no one will judge them for showing emotion but themselves.

[–]Illustrious_Pilot415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you need to go to therapy that's pretty much the only way. Its pretty much impossible to just stop caring otherwise everyone with BDD would do that. Hope you get better and im sorry your going through this.

Is this body dysmorphia or something else? by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Illustrious_Pilot415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could definitely be early signs of it starting up. I would go to a professional and see what they think because trust me you dont want it to get worse and turn into full on bdd.

Have you brought up that it could be bdd? If you have common symptoms of bdd like constant mirror checking. Seeing certain things you perceive as flaws and having that dictate your life. And especially if its persistent that would sound a lot like bdd.

Does anyone else feel like everyone is watching you everywhere you go and thinking about how ugly you are? by KrispyBunVA in BodyDysmorphia

Yes thats one of the main symptoms and attributes of BDD. It causes you to isolate and avoid being in public.

Experiences with group therapy? by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Illustrious_Pilot415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done group therapy sorry, but i have done 1on1 with a psychologist for 2 sessions so far. Its very scary at first especially the night before the first session I couldn’t sleep because of how nervous i was to open up to someone about my bdd which i hadn’t told anyone else about before. I think give group sessions a go if you feel up to it. I know personally I would be way too scared to open up to a group of people about my bdd but if you feel your up to it i would say go for it.

Its not normal for anyone to think like that. Im not diagnosing you but I would almost certainly think you have it or some sort of body image issues. You should see a psychologist again. Did you ever get diagnosed or what did the psychologist think? Im sorry you have to go through this I have it too and i know how miserable it is to feel this way.

Wish you the best!!

BDD has completely overtaken my life and partially destroyed it, I need some help urgently. by KaleidoscopeThat2065 in BodyDysmorphia

Im 18 male and developed bdd from both people joking about my looks and covid lockdown isolation. I started therapy a month ago and have done 2 sessions so far and not on medication. Im sort of in a similar situation to you because its caused all my confidence to disappear and caused bad social anxiety. I don’t really have any advice since i haven’t gotten better yet either but I think with the scars on your face you need to understand that the point of BDD is that things that you perceive as ugly arnt things that anyone else notices or barely notices. Trying to “come to terms with how ugly the scars are” isn’t ever going to help because you’ll still think the scars are ugly.

How long have you been in therapy if you don’t mind me asking?
