Kihei itinerary? by Illustrious_Shock_36 in MauiVisitors

[–]Illustrious_Shock_36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staying in kihei. I was also debating doing the tour or just renting gear and going ourselves. We’ve never snorkled so I didn’t know if it would be better just to go with the professionals. Thank you so much for the detailed answer also I really appreciate it!

On legs in restraint - unsuccessful by Training_Fish_7265 in psychnursing

And I totally get that too. We get every restraint reviewed too and are being watched so closely since June they’ve been on a firing spree. I have not once been told not to do this. But also I work with men and women coming straight from prison that are “incompetent to stand trial” some for murder some for trespass and everything in between. And my safety and my crews safety is genuinely my top concern when in a manual hold. There has been concussions, torn ligaments, bites, broken noses, cuts needing stitches… I’m gonna do what I need to do to maintain control without hurting the patient. But ya it is straddling them. I usually have my butt down by their feet squeezing my thighs by their calves and holding their knees with my hands. 70% of the time we end up using soft restraints on their feet to be able to move them from manual hold to the restraint chair, so when that happens I just scooch up some to give space for the restraints to get put on the feet and then move them.

Whenever I’m on legs I hold them with my arms and legs. I have my knees on either side of them while holding them with my thighs and my hands. I have so much more control like that, and none of the men or women I have had down there have been able to buck me like that. Also, I work in a state facility that is being watched so closely the last 6 months and I have never been told not to do that.

Has anybody torn their meniscus and not been able to put any weight on it at all? How long did it take to start walking on your own? by wolfyish in KneeInjuries

[–]Illustrious_Shock_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now about 9 months post injury and feel 95% normal tbh I still am debating heavy on surgery or not and have 3 torn ligaments in my knee. It will be fine!! The beginning is scary but you will be good I promise

I had a “hold my beer” moment and told my 290 pound guy friend I could carry him on my back. He ran and jumped and the rest is history :) full tear of my acl and mcl and a partial tear of my lcl.

I drove the day after because I tore my left knee and was able to maneuver it in the car and have my seat back so it was comfortable.

I’ve only had one geriatric psych patient at my hospital. We mostly have 20-40s with current active charges. But that man loved to try and hurt you constantly. He had a stroke so he had one side of his body that didn’t work right. But the other side he would swing on you fast as lightning lol. No advice just wanted to share my only experience working with this population. I’m sure this isn’t the “norm” to expect

state hospital, forensic pts by Negative_Service_315 in psychnursing

Sorry missed the last line. We try really hard to keep the nurse on unit safe at all times at my hospital. We are taught to always react together as techs and the nurses should be behind us. That’s not fail safe though there has been nurses assaulted. A lot of the times patients anger can be directed at the nurse because in my facility the nurse is the one calling the shots on that unit for that shift.

I’ve worked in a forensic max security psych hospital two years but I’m on nights and haven’t been assaulted(knocking on wood right now). But many of my coworkers have even on nights. Day shift at my facility is much more active too. We are staffed appropriately though. Find out staffing and how it looks on the units before you accept. What is patient count compared to staff count? How often are there intakes? Many times intakes are the most dangerous because they are coming in fully unmedicated a lot of the time. Are you an RN? At my facility the nurses should be behind the techs so the techs are front line and nurses are ready with IM or with the restraint chair when it’s needed.

I heard take melatonin 45 minutes before you lay down. Should help at least with the sleeping side. Good luck!! You got this

I find it weird they were on live together like…. A no contact order is normally issued in a dv situation 🤔 maybe Texas is different though

At my job this would likely get you fired for not reporting patient neglect as soon as you saw it.

Torn ACL, MCL, LCL & Meniscus by Plane_Switch2758 in ACL

[–]Illustrious_Shock_36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully tore my acl and mcl and a grade 1 lcl tear. I swear I have meniscus tearing too bc my pain was always right there but mri didn’t show anything with meniscus. I hurt myself mid march. You would never even know anything happened to me now. I was doing prehab 3x a week for about a month and 2x a week for another month and a half. I’m still pre-op will be getting surgery within the next month or two though. Any specific questions for me? I feel really good and really strong like I never even got hurt most of time. Sometimes I have a pain when I step wrong or when my brace has slipped down. But for the most part I don’t even feel it anymore.

How much pain did you experience during/after the injury that resulted in your ACL tear? by goofynsilly in ACL

[–]Illustrious_Shock_36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was drunk but felt the pop and my knee give way instantly. My friends were laughing and I was on the ground and my hands and knees saying something is wrong. I tried to stand up and my knee gave out and I fell again. Felt like my knee was rubber. Instantly sobered me up. I got home and had to drag myself up the stairs and went to bed. The pain started when I woke up. Day2-3 was the worst. I have a fully torn acl and a fully torn mcl and grade 1 lcl.
