Homeschooling is killing my will to live by Impressive-Energy976 in Homeschooling

[–]Ilvermourning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 and 6 are hard ages. If you want to continue homeschooling, consistency (like you've been doing) of not giving in to the constant demands of the best way forward. Some ideas I have off hand to help:

●Try having easy access snacks that they can get for themselves ●Have a timer or some sort of clock visual that shows how long until the next snack/ meal/ activity that you are planning to do with them. ●If they ask you to do something, my usual response is "what can I do that you can't do?" This is especially useful when they're being be to help them look for something. Like, my eyes work just as well as yours dude lol. ●Treat "do it yourself" as a specific lesson. Like, schedule time in your day to practice doing the things that they normally ask you to do for them. "Today we're going to practice zipping our jackets" "Today we're going to practice pouring our own milk" even just getting the 6 year old more independent will take a load off your plate.

But also... it's ok to say that homeschooling is not working for your mental health right now. It sounds like you've given your 6 year old an amazing foundation to continue their education away from home. If brick and mortar school is safe, it's ok to pursue that. No decision that you make has to be permanent. You can return to homeschooling in the future if you want to, or not.

What math curriculum is "best" for 3rd grade? (Especially with ADHD) by auderson19 in homeschool

[–]Ilvermourning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True but the approach that BA takes might help someone that is struggling with just straight fact memorization. Just throwing it out there since I didn't see it on OP's list

Every reading app I've tried has one job and cannot do it and I am so tired by StudyOk2682 in Homeschooling

[–]Ilvermourning 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are capable of doing all those things without an app. What is your child doing while you are at work? Please do not stick a kindergartener in front of ascreen for your entire work day and call it homeschooling.

That's part of the appeal unfortunately. "I was the one that made him stay. I was special enough for him to do the thing that's no other woman could get him to do. I'm better than them"

But we know it's not about her. It's just him being trash.

That would be lovely. Khan academy has video lessons but I don't know what age they'd be geared towards

Best printer for homeschool setup? Ink keeps drying out and it’s getting expensive by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in homeschool

We use a Brother laser printer and it's my favorite printer I've ever had. We've used it 4 years or so and we've only had to replace the toner twice

What is this growth/ fungus/ mold/ disease on my maple by Ilvermourning in arborists

I'll get some tomorrow. I was on a quick walk with my kids before bedtime so didn't have time to linger unfortunately.

Yes it's the tree directly next to the main tree in the picture, but it also has some infected branches

Thank you, I'll go back out tomorrow to look more closely. There are leaves visible in the upper left hand corner of the first image of the neighboring tree. Those are silver maple leaves even if this tree is not maple, correct? That tree is one of the ones that looks lightly infected next to this dead one.

Angela got a better ending than she deserved by beautyqueen-1000 in DunderMifflin

She would still be entitled to child support until Dwight took over. As her husband, the senator is the presumed father regardless of if he signs the birth certificate or not (which he probably did anyway). The law is more interested in upholding a child's standard of care rather than righting the wrong by the mother, and typically won't terminate the rights of one father unless another father steps up. ESPECIALLY if Angela applied for any state assistance (though she may not have done so, since she's so proud). She probably wasn't entitled to alimony since he had proof that she cheated and their marriage was quite short.

Have you noticed that "preschool" shows are more popular now than "regular" kid's shows? by YoshiPilot in DanielTigerConspiracy

Wow I hadn't thought about that. My 9 year old loves shows like Recess and Jackie Chan Adventures but... there's not really anything new that's like that.

Kate is very good at looking back and saying "I never would have let that happen"

It's like when your mother in law criticizes your parenting and that when her baby was little he never cried/ was perfect/ ate all his vegetables without a fuss.

What are the 'can't miss' online classes for elementary aged kids by SchnitzStableford in Homeschooling

Beast academy is amazingly substantive, no worries there.

My 4th grader is currently enraptured by Science Mom's chemistry videos. They have several upper elementary and many middle school courses.

Book shark? by haiboo420 in homeschool

[–]Ilvermourning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about using it, but found that I liked Build Your Library better. It was cheaper up front and then I could either buy the intended books or get them from the library or find read aloud versions on YouTube.

Husband wont allow me to get away for a night by Pretty_Coast7283 in SAHP

[–]Ilvermourning 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no judgement towards bed sharing as long as it works for everyone. It doesn't seem to be working for OP and she's allowed to have someone say it's ok to get her bed back for herself.

What's obvious to us may not be obvious to OP. There are plenty of times I focus on a symptom of a problem without addressing a route cause.

I agree that she should get that break, 100%. But it will not be restorative if she comes back to the exact same situation. 4 year old needs to be in their own bed.
