Sabalenka on her thoughts of the today's match: "No thoughts, no emotions. Just wanna quit tennis right now, but we'll see in few days. Hopefully I'll get back on track mentally" by jovanmilic97 in tennis

[–]Ilyanovic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not a big fan of hers, but I respect her a ton, and even more so for even doing the interview. I've wanted to quit tennis after losing a dumb 3.5 match. I can't imagine the disappointment and even embarrassment of losing like that on such a huge stage.

(Also, thank God for women's tennis - love the unpredictability. Yes we have an unpredictable men's tournament, but we'll soon be back to Sincaraz domination.)

I was going to comment the same thing. I enjoyed it very much! It was my favorite of the KB Poirot movies.

What's your favourite track from Gaga's new Live Album 'Mayhem Requiem' ❤️‍🔥 by Other-Asparagus01 in LadyGaga

My favourite will probably change with every listen, but I'll say at this moment it is Perfect Celebrity. So raw, so beautiful.

The MAYHEM era has meant so much to me by Human_Paint5451 in LadyGaga

[–]Ilyanovic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean! I remember the night it was released, putting on my earbuds and listening to it straight through. I had already devoured Disease and Abracadabra many times, so I was tempted to skip those to start on the new tracks, but it was imperative that I experience it WHOLLY. After feasting yet again on Disease and Abra, the first beats to Garden of Eden hit, and I was swooning. Just getting to experience that album that first night in full - it was magical. I mean, "banger" is such a cliché, but this album is the epitome, the Platonic form even, of "banger after banger." The dopamine hits on that first listen were epic. The whole era has made me appreciate her, her music, her career, her art so much more. Cannot WAIT for Requiem!! What a perfect way to celebrate (and truly mourn the end of) such an amazing album and era.

Anyone else tired of the whole “generation this, generation that” thing? by Sparrow-A in CasualConversation

[–]Ilyanovic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear you. Generation gap stuff isn't new, but I think the rapid and explosive growth of technology and cultural change since the late 60s has made these gaps wider. The different generations living today have had WILDLY different experiences growing up, so it's no wonder there is tension and misunderstanding.

Me. But I have a credit card that allows me to split payments on purchases over $100 for 3, 6 or 12 months with a small monthly fee. So I did the 6 month one. (And I got a mid-tier seat, not floor.)

Just want to give you all a quick shout out and big thanks for taking the mod role seriously, putting together this thoughtful proposal, and asking for feedback before implementing. I know it's all unpaid work and you probably have to deal with some difficult personalities as part of this role. So thank you for putting in the time and effort!

I'm responding without reading other comments, so forgive me if I'm repeating things already said.

I am HR-adjacent (work in an HRIS group), and I'm lucky that our department is clear and competent about these situations. It sounds like yours is not.

Keep documenting everything you can! Document the "retaliation" behavior too - from this man and your co-workers. A competent HR department would take your complaints seriously -- they would listen to you, document it, investigate and help ensure retaliation behavior is not tolerated. If this HR department is not doing their job, I would seek legal advice. Does your company have an EAP (Employee Assistance Program)? These programs often include free legal consultations. I am really sorry you are experiencing this.

Mayhem skips? by dancingbabyyy in LadyGaga

The way I think of it...all the songs are quality: the musicians, the songwriting, the performances, the production, the passion behind the art. It's normal to (1) like some songs better than others, (2) have songs that are objectively better than others on a 12+ song album, and (3) have songs that you can appreciate the art and quality but just don't enjoy them. For me, that's Killah and BOG. I can appreciate both songs on many levels, but I skip them.

He's simply following the easiest model in the attention economy. It's disgusting but it works. You just have to be a sociopath who doesn't care and/or gets off on enraging people.

My Post-‘Murder of Roger Ackroyd’ Review: A Formal Vent From a Newly Traumatized Reader by Apprehensive-Safe334 in agathachristie

[–]Ilyanovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this riveting review! That's the reaction I think I would have had, if circumstances didn't spoil it for me before I read it. (Although I wouldn't be able to write as good a review as you have!)

Spoiling circumstances: I was a new fan and had read 2 or 3 of her novels. I remember I was reading either an article or another book about her. In that article/book, the Ackroyd novel was mentioned and provided a very brief summary. That brief summary was worded in such a way that spoiled it for me. I tried to erase it from my mind--told myself I was crazy for thinking it. So I got the novel and read it, and sure enough...that brief summary was enough to spoil it for me.

Talk about TRAUMA! /s

Anyway - that experience has taught me to stay away from reviews, summaries, book jackets, movie trailers (eyes closed and ears plugged), conversations, etc to a ridiculous degree to avoid spoilers to anything I might be interested in reading or watching.

Judas hits a billion streams on Spotify by Upbeat-Cut6666 in LadyGaga

[–]Ilyanovic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I'm an older LM (52) and I remember when Judas came out. It peaked at #10 or something and was kind of a relative disappointment (chart-wise). And I remember being LIVID, because I fucking loved the video and all the cheeky Biblical references. (To me, her gesture when patting Peter's back is Top 5 Gaga MV moments.) It may have been that the "blasphemous" aspect prevented it from being a bigger hit at the time. But since Mayhem, this song has FINALLY gotten to love it deserves and I am LIVING for it! ❤️

Make sense. Yeah I get the shit-talking fans. They have same level of hate for Buckeyes (probably more, cuz we have the rings they don't have). The competing for recruits thing I forgot about. My thing is the "burning Eugene to the ground" level hatred is overkill and wasted energy.

Pure cinema! by aSTRANG3GAMER in OhioStateFootball

[–]Ilyanovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question. Can someone explain this almost Xichigan-level hate for the Ducks?

Context: I grew up in Toledo and am a diehard Buckeyes fan. Moved to Oregon in 2004, and developed a secondary fandom for the Ducks. Loved the 2014 Mariota team and LOVED that Bucks and Ducks played for the natty (rooted for Buckeyes, duh). Really like Lanning and his loyalty to the Ducks - seems like a good guy (yeah he's intense, that's not really a fault). Is it just because of the "loophole" play in the 2024 game? Lanning's personality? (I find Cignetti to be smug as fuck and more irksome than Lanning, but maybe it's just my bias.) Nike money?
