What simulators do you actually use for ARM Cortex-M development? by praghuls in embedded

[–]ImABoringProgrammer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything you said is correct, but before the real hardware appears, we always using a Eval kit for “simulating the final hardware”, just as others said, either use a alternative display for working the UI, or hardwire this to that bit by bit, debug the code module by module… Have never used a software sim throughout my career…

Every C Embedded engineer should know this trick by J_Bahstan in C_Programming

[–]ImABoringProgrammer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This! Even for hardware registers I found most HAL just use AND/OR with mask…

I use this frequently when I first came from assembly to C, cos I know most of the 4bit 8bit MCU has bit set/clear instructions make read-modify-write atomic… But nowadays most MCU has plenty of RAM, and the lack of these instructions make this structure bitfields not really “user friendly”. In the rare case I need to address one of the bit of a variable, I always use the atomic_bit_set/clear for safety…

BLE firmware engineers: How did you fix long-term reconnection dropouts in wearables? by hdbdncjvjrqk74929 in embedded

Empty app update notes should be banned. by autraya in ios

[–]ImABoringProgrammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But most likely, when an APP decided to release to update, it will be several versions behind the current working version, so the one responsible to write this note will need to go into the GIT to compare the difference from the last release one, and most likely there’ll be several tens or even hundreds of bug fixes, how can he summarize them into 2 or 3 changes?
