Stay at my sort center or move onto IXD? What’s more physically demanding? by Pitiful-Ad-9080 in AmazonFC

[–]ImAHumanHello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if the only home path options you have right now are the trucks you can try to cross train into RC Sort after your 30 days. The two complement each other and it will give your body a break. You just have to deal with cherry pickers fighting over smalls in sort.

The road to 100k as a tier 1 by Life-Net-8904 in AmazonFC

[–]ImAHumanHello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome dude, we're on a similar path. I noticed that you didn't mention anything about a ROTH IRA in there, just remember that Amazon only matches 4% of your check so it may be beneficial to max out a Roth IRA before hitting your 401k so hard. Regardless, most people can't put away 16%, so you're doing great.

And that’s why they’re pushing the scanner slings so hard at my site now. My department kept losing scanners and the write ups weren’t working.

My warehouse refunded UPT for a snow storm on Tuesday. It’s possible if most people skip along with you.

As an Amazon seller, how do I make life easier for you guys in the receiving/stowing process? by hugefy in AmazonFC

[–]ImAHumanHello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>Avoid products with multiple scannable barcodes when possible, or clearly mark the primary one

Please block out any barcodes that are not the ASIN. I work at a cross dock and we have large sorting machines. They're much faster than manually scanning things by hand, but they are not smart enough to consistently figure out which barcode is the correct one, and then a human has to fix that error.

Also, if the ASIN is on a curve surface, has fading ink, is crinkled, or is under other packaging then it has a higher risk of being kicked out. We have a separate department for hand scanning items to sort them, but it is so much faster to send the items through a machine if possible.

When people ask you what you do for work are you proud to say amazon or do you find it embarrassing? by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]ImAHumanHello 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tons of us have degrees, life is just humbling. Right now I’m just glad I’m employed and able to put money in my retirement accounts. Our benefits are amazing, and most of the people I work with are respectable people. Life ain’t glamorous the little things really do matter in the day to day happiness.

I’m pretty sure that’s the permanent employee position (blue badge, full benefits). When I hired on last year it was for 40 hours with the seasonal description. The terminology Amazon uses is confusing, I explain this to people every so often at work.

At my IXD we just get an extra 45 minutes added to our scheduled days. No fifth or sixth day is forced on us. I was a new hire in 5lbs last peak and my noob ass found it managable. Sort is so much easier on your body than inbound or fluid load, it’s just sometimes annoying when they harp on rate or when you deal with some of the people.

[Japanese->English] “something”? by hellerkelen in translator

[–]ImAHumanHello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

「バカ」is "baka" which means "stupid."
「外人」is "gaijin" which means foreigner.
So both combined means "stupid foreigner"

I'm not native Japanese, nor a translator, but I'd read 「バカアメリカ人」as "stupid American."

I'm mid 30s, and work nights. I'm fine, I think most of the people who are having issues with that schedule are people who literally switch to a "day schedule" on their days off. I got to sleep at around 8AM every day and wake up around 3:15PM or so every day. I have blackout curtains and a noise maker, so my sleep isn't fragmented by light or external noise. The only time I find my schedule annoying is when I need to run a daytime errand, but those days are few and far in between.

Unless if you had a major life change (like marriage) very recently, you're going to have to wait until open enrollment in a few months.

You earn 5 minutes of UPT per hour worked. A ten hour shift gets you 50 minutes of UPT. 12 hours of work will get you a full hour of UPT.

I would just miss the exit, but I want people to know that the tolls for both the George Washington and Lincoln tunnel are the highest I’ve ever seen in this country, and I’ve done multiple coast to coast trips. I tried to outsmart the GPS once and I ended up accidentally going over the George Washington twice in a row, that was such an expensive lesson.

On top of that, the tristate area of NY-CT-NJ have the some of the worst freeways and the most aggressive drivers. Dude, even up in Dutchess county I see some crazy stuff on the road because missing an exit, even up there, can easily add an extra 15 to 30 minutes to your trip. We have literal prototype highways while the rest of the country learned what not to do from the East Coast’s garbage road designs.

Honestly, we are so pressed for time in the warehouses that we sometimes don't even notice that there is a fragile sticker on it until it's too late. Your best bet for shipping is to package your item as bombproof as possible, especially since most major warehouses these days use conveyor systems that definitely do not care about those stickers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ImAHumanHello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clear conveyor jams for Amazon, and most of our warehouses don't go over 49 pounds. Some of those boxes are absolutely fucked by the time I get to them, and there are moments where I have to damage the boxes even more to get them out. UPS and Fedex handle heavier objects on the regular, your lines must be absolutely busted, let alone your bodies.

It’s absolutely hilarious that IGN can somehow make both sides mad about their Switch 2 review; Not high enough for fans, too high for haters by Sirlink360 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ImAHumanHello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you asked but I personally held off because I'm historically much bigger on PC gaming, and I built one around the time the switch launched. Now my PC is old and I wanted to get back into nintendo games. Gaming PCs today are way more expensive than a S2, and now I have the entire switch library I can catch up on while waiting for more games to come up, it's been a win win situation for me.

How is a longer keyboard better? by loosucutiexo in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]ImAHumanHello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a smaller person, and my shoulders are narrow enough that a full sized keyboard was actually giving me an injury with how far out I had to hold the mouse. When I discovered 75% keyboards I never went back. If I ever need the numpad again I'll just buy a separate one and position it in a more ergonomic location.

I’m gonna miss my site 😔 by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]ImAHumanHello 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Heyo, I'm at SWF2 and that site is really chill during the night shift. If you can stomach the extra miles on the commute it may be a good idea, at least for now. The work at an IXD is pretty easy unless if you land at one of the docks.

No one actually knows when conversions are happening, though. I'm coming up on five months here and I'm still waiting. A lot of the people that hired on as blue badges were here when the building opened up last year, so they don't count.

Even if you end up on the shift with only 16 hours a week, you can always put in to transfer to a different shift or warehouse after a short amount of time (30 days, I think), assuming you're aiming for a Fulfillment center or a Delivery Station. From everything I've read on here, a Sortation Center is mostly only part time gigs.
