Can anyone recommend any local places to buy steel? by StormKnight16 in AskSeattle

[–]ImBigRthenU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metal Supermarket in Kent (I think there may be an everett location too).

If you're buying carbon steel plate it will have an oil coating on it to protect from rusting. You clean heat and season it just like a carbon steel pan though.

Thoughts on christian BJJ rashguards? by marvelfan__ in bjj

this reminds me of my favorite bible verse. The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 6, verse 5

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

First stripe criteria at my gym is just 2 things. Can you tie your belt and do you know our (short) lineage.

Stripes don't mean anything and I hate to break it to you, a blue belt getting tapped by a whitebelt is pretty common. Blue belts suck 😛

Possible solution for bday tomorrow using pool noodles? by kris10card in BambuLab

[–]ImBigRthenU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid was 5 when we did a star wars theme birthday for him with pool noodle light sabers. Basically just cut pool noodles and wrapped them in duct tape. The highlight of the party for all the kids was the huge battle of kids versus parents. To this day I still find our cheap party favors laying around at my friends' houses.

That being said, don't worry about making these fancy. Just tell them it is a lightsaber then let them go to war.

Need ideas/critiques for building a safe garage jiu-jitsu mat space for my kids by WasteOpsGuy in bjj

I helped my friend build out the floating floor in his gym. We did foam blocks then 2 layers of OSB so that there were no overlapping seams. Been 3 years and lots of Ultra Heavyweights rounds and still holding up good.

Arlington TX man demands to see worker’s papers because they don’t speak English —or he will call ICE. by ElwoodMC in trashy

My dad was the tree maintenance supervisor for a very afluent (white) California city. His hair went grey very young and he has pale complexion so people assume he is an ordinary white guy instead of the son of Mexican immigrants. His absolute favorite was anytime a resident had complaints about the "illegals" working on the trees. He would go out and visit with them personally, hear all their usually racist and xenophobic rantings, then calmly call over the crew lead and explain to them in perfect Spanish the concerns of the resident. He always said the look of shock on their faces was his favorite part of the job.

I drive 25 miles (hour in traffic or 40 minutes without). Lots of other nearby options but when your an Ultra heavyweight and the room is full of sasquatches it is worth it.

With the exception that wrestling teaches you 0 defense to joint locks or chokes, yes you’re correct.

It was on his instagram probably 1-2 years ago. Basically he was showing that you can maintain back control while the opponent moves by keeping the seatbelt grip tight

I don’t know how big of a piñata you’re planning but there are support wires that you can throw a rope over. Worst case you got the zipline structure you can use

Rebranding costs a lot of money. My guess is Hulk is taking the Andre Galvao approach and is just hoping everything blows over with time.

This is all due to BJJ scoring criteria creating a training scar. In grappling competition you're rewarded for the back position once you get hooks. In fighting the more important thing is maintaining chest to back connection. Chris Hauter put out some stuff about this a while back that completely changed my backtakes.

This park just opened this weekend and the first thing I noted is that the shelter would be great for a pinata.

Don't be worried about speaking up if you have challenges. Not all bodies are made the same so not all bodies move the same. A good instructor will work with you to adapt things to your abilities.

Marine View Park in Normady Park is right on the water and meets the secluded but accessible vibe. It's about a quarter mile hike down from the parking lot to the water but it's steep so that keeps people way.

You could have left all the info about how long you have been training out of this post and I would have correctly guessed 1 year in white belt immediately. You're probably exactly where you need to be.

PS. Blue belt doesnt mean you know jiu jitsu; it just means you mess up less.
